Resident 2010 - 2011

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, READ THIS REVIEW.

Where can I even begin... let me preface this review by saying that before I moved into The Dunes, I was living on someone's couch, so I had no high expectations by any means; I just wanted a place that had working plumbing and a place to put my bed. I had actually seen the previous conditions of the complex so I was confident that with new ownership and renovation it would be fine. Wrong. So, soooo wrong. If you can get past the fact that you'll feel like you're in The Shining every time you walk down the hallway to your apartment, then you've probably also overlooked all the dog crap and piss you've collected on your shoes on the way. This place is BEYOND filthy. I'm talking Hell's Kitchen Manhattan gross. Not to mention it is INFESTED with cockroaches. You will pay for pest "control" in your rent every month and it's a joke. The first roach I saw I tried to pass it off ("Oh, it's an old complex, it's Florida, I must have brought it in in the move") but after 6 rounds of bleach and about 100 maintenance calls later I still could not get this problem solved. It took FOUR WEEKS for them to come spray, and it did NOTHING. The plumbing also did not work. The bathtub was clogged within the first month and they did nothing but -------rig it back to working for a day before it was clogged again. They came 4 times before I just pretty much gave up. Six months in, Jeff Spicoli and a whole slew of his 17-year-old (no joke) friends moved in across the hall and because our A/C vents were connected, I inhaled nothing but old Chinese food and weed for half a year. Not to mention they skateboarded down the halls at all hours of the night and got noise violated about 10 times; the Dunes staff did nothing. In a drunken rage my next-door neighbor held a wine bottle to my head and threatened to kill me - yep, real kid-friendly stuff. The office staff literally never answers their phone. Ever. You can call 50 times a day and you'll get nothing but a pilled-out monotone voice recording. And forget about leaving a written statement in the drop-box because it'll sit there for months. Also, the laundry facility is a total nightmare. It's a good place to probably get raped and tuberculosis at the same time. But the worst part of the Dunes: when I moved out, they charged me $600.00 in damages because of a few mild carpet stains in a corner and because I left a perfectly working microwave in the kitchen (in their opinion "trash"). I feel like they owe me a thousand bucks because they stole a year of my life. If you think I'm just being an over-dramatic pompous a** with nothing better to do, sign the lease and see for yourself! I think I should have stayed on my friend's couch. Or maybe a dumpster - it would've smelled better.
