update of 2/9/05 post

Apparently this apartment rating site will not allow any posts that are not anonymous. Discouraging real people from proving they and their experiences are real doesn't make sense, but that is their perogative. They deleted my post, reposted below, because I was real enough to stand behind my rating with my name and phone number.

For the record, the workmen are on the scaffolding outside of my bedroom window as I write this. Three months after we were moved into what was represented as a "new" and "completed" apartment.

I wonder what benefit any legitimate tenant has in trying to misrepresent my experience or guess at motives in posting this.

Here is the original update:

I see that my prior experience at River Park (2/9/05) was misinterpreted by at least one person who, rather than responding to me, gave RP another better than average review. I will not assume this was done intentionally, but it was incorrect. I suggest you read both of my posts here before responding.

If you read the words I wrote on 2/9/05, you might see that the complaint was about being mislead, perhaps directly lied to, by management. The complaint was that we were moved in an extreme rush under false pretenses into an apartment and building that was not finished - even though we were promised an apartment that was completed.

For the record, there is still scaffolding a few inches from my bedroom window. The exterior wall remains unfinished. Peeling paint still hangs over our heads in the interior walkways. This apartment has more mold and mildew than any of the previous apartments we've had here at River Park. The dirt and noise continues. The building is not done.

This week, they started working on the apartment they rushed us out of almost three months ago. Obviously they did not rush us out so they could start working on it. The old apartment, three months ago, in spite of some hurricane damage, was cleaner and more completed than this one.

We appreciate the efforts of the RP maintenance people.

Apparently management hired sloppy contractors who did shoddy work at rebuilding the place after major hurricane damage. This apartment was not rebuilt, rather it was patched, and the patchwork was visibly poor quality. The splatters of paint on mirrors, fixtures, and counters remain reminders of that shoddy work. The fact that completed exterior walls, freshly painted, had to be torn down is a clear sign of the poor work the contractors did.

The RP maintenance staff are very quick to respond and very polite, however they can not repair all the damage done. The mold and mildew in the walls of the apartment comes from exterior walls that remain exposed for months to the weather and vermin and insects. The top foot of walls are flakey to the touch. Air conditioning vents at that level are not held by their screws when the air blows through them. The drafty windows and walls keep our electric bills over $250 a month.

The RP management lied to us. This apartment was not ready for move in. It is still not up to the standards of an upscale apartment. Definitely not worth $1130 a month or more, since this is the renewal rate) for a three bedroom.

And why not just move out, we're asked.

Simple answer: Money. We do not have the deposits and security another apartment would require. We have more than three thousand dollars on deposit here at RP, and we do not want to lose it.

What we want is simply what we were promised three months ago when we were rushed into this apartment, a completed apartment.

We signed the lease without seeing the supposedly new apartment we were rushed into, trusting RP management at their word. We can forgive the misrepresentations of "brand new cabinets, fixtures, appliances" and so on. We understand sales techniques.

Though the dishwasher is so ineffective we do not use it.

It is the flat out lies that potentially effect our health that remain. The apartment was said to be finished, as was the building. The work continues three months after were were rushed in.

I feel bad for RP management, for some of the office staff seem to be genuinely nice people. The struggles with the cold insurance companies and incompetent contractors must be very stressful for them.

I empathize with their situation, but they get paid to endure the stress.

We pay a lot of money to be "happy at home" as they say. We pay a lot of money to feel safe and comfortable in a clean and upscale apartment home.

We do not get what we pay for.

At this point in the original posting of this I included my phone number so you could call if you do not understand or if you wish to discuss why we stand by our ratings. This website deleted the post due to that personal information. I'd invite you over, but I would not want anything to fall on your head on the way in. We try to keep our sense of humor, but I wish I was only joking.

(name and contact information not allowed on this site)
