Resident ā€¢ 2005 - 2006

3/10/2006

This being my first apartment, The Darlington certainly has left a sour taste in my mouth.

I was so happy to find an apartment in Buckhead that was convienent for school and work; however, their model does not represent what you really get.

My problems have been as follows:

1. My boyfriends car was totalled in their parking lot. It was parked. Someone was pushing their car and just let go. Needless to say, my boyfriends car was eaten by the giant SUV. The only saving grace is that a maintence guy saw it happen, so the guy responsible had to report the accident.

2. I was flooded. The person living above me left a lit candle, their apartment went up in flames, or should I say curtains. Regardless, their sprinklers went off and I was flooded below. It took two hours for someone to come to my apartment. They spent a total of ten minutes with a vuccum on the soaking carpet. They did a horrible job fixing it. There are hard lines all over my carpet now from the glue they used to "repair" it. Secondly, when I spoke to the senior manager about this, he told me that they have no responsiblity to help me replace anything. I mentioned that their building is under insurance, therefore I was under their insurance. He changed the topic and walked off. I'm a college kid, two hundred dollars is a lot of money to spend replacing tampons, toilet paper, makeup, medicines, etc. I was essentially told, "better luck next time."

3. The roaches and bugs. Ew! My kitten has a field day. He sits in the kitchen and waits for roaches to come out. I have to keep the light on 24/7, or until I go to bed to keep them at a bay. It doesnt work. I bleach my kitchen and spray bug spray on a daily basis, and still, I swear it's an aphrodiasic for them.

4. Their copy of my key was lost. They only realized this when someone tried to come to my apartment and due maintanence. They left a note telling me that I need to give them my spare. When I informed them that I was not giving them my spare and wanted my locks changed for safety reasons, they told me, "No one would know it's your key." I don't really care, to be honest. I'm a woman living in Buckhead. I dont need a spare copy of my key floating around. It took them a bit of time, and a lot of attitude to change my locks.

5. The smell. If my floor doesnt smell like pot, it smells like fish. I can't decide which I like better at this point.

6. Upon moving in, my apartment was covered in cat urine. All of my carpet had to be replaced. Once again, there was a bit of attitude about it.

7. Lastly, my neighbor. I have filed noise complaint after noise complaint about her. At first, I woke up to incredibly loud african tribal music at seven am. I could deal with that; however, when I was awoken by her screaming at other women. It was a total cat fight. I had to get the security gaurd, who didnt even dare knock. He called the Atlanta Police Department. There are several domestics a week in this complex. It's certainly disturbing.

My lease ends in May and I will certainly be leaving. The rent is going up. It's cheap, affordable, and a great spot. To be honest though, I'd much rather pick up a few extra shifts at work to afford a nicer place.
