Resident ā€¢ 2002 - 2004

6/5/2004

This is my third year at Spring Creek Apartments (formerly Amli At Spring Creek). I remember when I moved in, I was very impressed. The scenery of the rolling hills, the wooded areas, and landscapping are beautiful. My apartment is on the side of a hill in South Crossing and is literally in the woods. I enjoy spending time on my back porch as it feels like a relaxing mountain home. When I moved in, there was a problem with roaches and varments, but maintenance sprays regularly and keeps the little pests at bay. While I have had a few mechanical issues with the apartment, maintenance has been very responsive and fixes things within a few hours. The management staff has be very personal and courteous every time that I have interacted with them. The Amli staff was very good a planning community events to encourage tenants to come out and get to know each other. I have gotten to know my neighbors and many of us have become good friends. We consider ourselves like a close tight-knit community that takes cares of each other.

However, the community has a dark underbelly that the prospective tenant may not notice at first glance. Because of the low demand for rental units within the past two years, Amli has had a hard time attracting quality tenants. Unfortunately, Amli has lowered their standards and allowed anyone to move into the complex that can fill out an application. To put it bluntly, these are people that would normally live in areas such as Bankhead, College Park, Southwest Atlanta, and Riverdale. While these undesirable floaters can not be seen during the day, they do come out from the dark corners and bushes at night just like the roaches do. This is evident by the high number of evictions and more disturbingly the recent armed robberies, break-ins, and car thefts. However, I must commend the management of Amli for properly handling these situations. They sent letters to all residents informing them of the incidents. Even though the letters may have scared some people into moving and giving bad publicity to the complex, they did empower most of the residents to work together and become more alert. This created a neighborhood watch atmosphere. Amli also increased police presence at the complex and organized a crime awareness seminar to educate residents on safety techniques. While I do feel that these efforts have been sucessful, Amli could be more proactive instead of reactive by not inviting and welcoming these thugs into the community in the first place.

With Amli gone at the takeover of Fairfield management, I must say that my feedback is not as positive. They lost my rent check and sent notices to my door that I am evicted if I don't pay $1200. Everything was worked out but they were very rude. Also, we haven't received any notices of crime incidents at the property. I find it hard to believe that there hasn't been any crime, since there has been so much in the past and many of the other apartment complexes in this area are experiencing crime. This area is going downhill because of the influx of immigrants from -------- countries and especially those from the southside of Atlanta. Soon, Perimeter Mall will be worse than Greenbriar Mall.

The bottom line is this: Spring Creek Apartments has the potential to be nice. However, the tenants are the most important factor in determining the quality of the community. If you are single, I would be skeptical of moving to any of the apartments in the Sandy Springs area. The apartments are becoming more inhabited by these undesirable tenants and are deteriorating quickly. Even though Spring Creek has tried to stand out as an oasis in the desert, it is inevitable that Spring Creek will eventually suffer the same fate as the neighboring apartments.

This is why I can not recommend this complex. I really hate to give this place a bad review because it has the potential to be so nice. But these undesirable tenants are like a cancer infecting the community that Amli worked so hard to build up.
