Resident 2012 - 2013

Affordable and decent for the price- BUT you do get what you pay for!!! *trust me im being honest- I know its long but you should read it, its helpful, truthful and unbiased and you have to pay rent so why not know* THE ACTUAL APARTMENT: (I live in the last room on the right with the large walk in closet)- The bedrooms are tiny as crap!! I came from living in the University Lofts and the Grove apartments and both of those bedrooms were very spacious. The rooms DO NOT come furnished but it kind of worked out in the long run for me because I had already had a mattress, just had to buy a frame and dresser (craigslist!). There is no way for you to be a messy person in this tiny room. The apartments complex offers you two types of closets, a walk in and a standard-but the standard is not really a standard because in the closet are 3 shelves that take up half of the closet!!! SO unless you have 1 trash bag full of clothes and less than 5 pais of shoes then get the walk in. It really helps, its not big enough to put a desk in like they may say to you on your tour, but it does help. If you have a full size bed, dont expect to bring a lot of other furniture. A bed and a dresser is enough, you can try to crowd the room with a desk and chair but you will have no space! I LOVE all the rooms have ceiling fans! AND this place is not lacking when it comes to outlets in the walls- some places you get one-two outlets that you have to plug everything into...I have 5. These apartments feel more like a "REAL APARTMENT" vs a "COLLEGE APARTMENT" with the layout, balcony, and flooring. THE BATHROOM.....Its a nice size, especially since you have to share it. I did have to replace the water flow cap on the inside of my toilet because the water was running but after that it was perfect. Luckily I have a bathroom to myself, me on one side, and my other roommates on the other side. So YES you DO have to share a bathroom- but work out the cleanliness with your roommate. You may get stuck with a disgusting person lol like my one roommate...but she doesn't want to give up her walk in closet. I currently live at Rivers Edge Apartments. The current property Managers is a nice young woman and I will say she is probably one of the coolest people Ive delt with when it comes college apartment managers. Shes actually really cool, and so are the staff, and if they dont know something they wont lie to you or make something up. Amenities: There are NONE! Sure theres basketball courts and volleyball courts. But the gym is shut down and no community programming takes place here...but that might not matter to some- its your call. Compared to some other apartments, RIvers Edge is behind on amenities, property upkeep and evolving with the times. But you do get a cool staff and descent rent... The parking: Its not that bad. 95% of the time I can park directly in front of my building. I dont live on the 1st floor so thats a big deal when carrying groceries or laundry or whatever. And we dont really have problems with commuters parking there like university lofts so parking is pretty much great. The noise: What the HECK!!!! I will say this is the worst thing about this apartment complex. Being that its older I can understand but damn! The wood floors are a nice touch, but when the people upstairs walk like cows its a lot. the only place you cant really hear the walking is in the bedrooms because of the carpet, but in the living room you can hear every step. But neighbors and even my damn roommate have no consideration for others and that can be easily nipped in the bud if you speak up kindly- dont just call the police, but actually ask "hey do you mind keeping it down a bit" ... then if that dont work call the damn cops, especially sunday thru wednesday past 3am! You can hear the people in the apartment above, below and behind you. The walls are paper thin so if you have a squeaky bed and you better put on a good show because everyone will know if your a quick pumper :-) Safety: This community is not gated and the street that it sits on get SO DARK at night because there are no street lights! It dont know if thats the city or what not but if i know i have to stay late on campus then im driving because i refuse to walk down that part of Brumbelow road past the light after greek village. AND...O HECK NO...we have a resident drug dealer that lives in building C on the 2nd floor....how do i know this, because my friends pothead boyfriend buys weed and X pills from him all the damn time!!!! I know people notice all the cars and people that come in and out of that apartment. AND that man is like 40 years old still living in a college apartment but drives a nice car sitting on 20-somethings....lets get real Rivers Edge- aint nobody go time for that!!!!! Putting your residents at risk....smh Maintenance and Grounds: Theres nothing special about this property except for the fact that we have a big pool...thats usually full of shirtless unattractive beer bellys. The parking lot needs to be repaved (pot holes everywhere) and parking spots are in a weird set up, its easy to almost hit someone coming around the corner because there are so many severe blind spots. Im actually proud to mention that people (well most people) actually clean up after their pets or take their pets in the woods near the creek (which is actually nice if you're into photography or scenic views or hiking). The actual maintenance person/people...they are kind of well not the best. It takes them a while to get around to fixing things and for such a small apartment complex (only 4 building) you would wonder why or what they are doing...hum. OVERALL: The rent is descent but that goes in conjunction with the room size and bathroom sharing. IN THE END it is a college apartment and noise should be anticipated where ever you live. Im sure a renovation is in the near future for this apartment complex, of it will just get bought out and someone will renovate, but for what it is now There are currently no registered sex offenders living here, unlike the some of the other apartments- my mom is in law enforcement so I always check and you can check online as well...its better to know then to find out later...AND i think they may be changing the pet policy with may turn a lot of people away. Ive only seen 6 different dogs on the property, and their may be others that I havent seen, but that could have a negative effect on new residents. There are several apartments that are empty or not at full capacity (4 tenants) I dont know how efficient these apartments would be at full capacity because there is not much cabinet space and the fridge is average size but I do think that roommates should work that out, learn to share space, and collaborate to make apartments comfortable for everyone. I do like this place because its affordable, you can make it your own, and its close to campus. We dont get any of the rowdy residents who like to shoot up the place or break into things...but that can happen anywhere, some more than others and luckily this is one of the others.
