Avalon Symphony Woods is in the Columbia Town Center and Walking distance from the Mall, Lakefront, College, and hospital. Also plenty of trails for the walker, jogger or cyclist.
I enjoyed the three years I lived there but I must admit it was nicer place when I moved there than when I left. The community has always been professionally run by Avalon but used to have a very comforting locally owned feel; the kind of place where everyone who worked their knew you by name and they would water your plants if you were on vacation. Over the past two years the company has been trying to give it more of a corporate feel, contrary to the logic that makes a place better, it really hasn't. It's made things more bureaucratic and callous. You can't even call the local office directly anymore; the number redirects you to corporate. If you show up at 6:01PM to pick up package, they might tell you "sorry were closed."
Additionally, they have been having many issues with burglaries and car break ins. Someone tried to break into my apartment twice in three years. Thus far the company has done very little to deter these crimes. They do communicate with the residents and have recently coordinated a special rate with ADT. Besides the burglaries the area is very safe; I have never had any issues even when walking home from the lakefront at night. (However always be careful and take precautions)
But hey, overall the apartments are great, the location is AWESOME. There is no reason you can't enjoy living here. It's like living in some sort woodland nest.
