Resident 2004 - 2011

3/11/2011

I'm moving out in the fall after being here seven years because the rent is high, otherwise I would stay. The location is central and convenient to a lot of stores and such. I haven't experienced any of the noise issues that others have mentioned. The walls are very solid. Sometimes I can hear my upstairs neighbors walking around or people talking in the hallway, but I never hear the people in the adjacent apartments. My car was broken into once and my radio stolen. Management installed floodlights on the front and back of the buildings, and I haven't experienced or heard of any car break-in issues since then. It seems as if there is a strong dividing line between the upper level lot and the lower level lot (close to the management office). Perhaps people feel they can get away with more if management can't see them, but there is more noise, more crime, and more overall weirdness in the upper level. Many neighbors have moved to the lower level from the upper level for this reason and I would recommend starting at the lower level to avoid the drama. The woman in the management office is friendly and always quick to respond to any issues. The man in the office is also friendly, but occasionally forgets requests or fails to follow up. I've heard neighbors complain of him being brash or argumentative, but he's never behaved that way toward me. Still, it's best to deal with the woman rather than him for any hot-button issues. I've never witnessed the management parking in the disabled parking spots as mentioned in a prior post. I do wish that the management gave more notice for unit inspections, non-emergency utility shut-offs, and air filter replacement. They typically give a day's notice, two at the most. Despite that, I've never had the maintenance or office personnel try to enter my apartment while I wasn't home or without my permission. Sometimes a quick-fix approach is taken; for example, I had a towel rack in my bathroom that was loose from the wall. It was very quickly screwed back in to the same area twice only to fall out again after a few weeks. Eventually I gave up and had a friend reinstall it with anchors that cost me $2 or so - now you could do pull-ups on it. :) The insulation for the doors and windows could definitely be improved. I can feel the cold air coming in through my window in the winter and hot air in the summer, which of course causes the electric bill to be higher than it should be. I suspect the pump in my unit is on its way out because the heating system blows cool air. I can't speak for other units. The grounds are very well-kept. The landscapers are efficient and the snow removal prompt. There is plenty of parking - it's free and not reserved, but I've never had to park further back than one row from my building the entire time I've lived here. There is a park behind the property that is occasionally used during the week for organized games. The weekend soccer games can get a little noisy if your window is open (referee whistle, cheering), otherwise it's okay. There is a small park and basketball court at the far end of that park which is great if you have kids. There is a lot of storage in the apartment itself. The bedroom closets cover entire walls and there are multiple other closets inside for other storage purposes. The kitchen is an average-sized apartment kitchen - roomy enough for one person, a bit tight for two people to be in there cooking at one time. I wish there was a window in the kitchen for more natural light, but that isn't how it was laid out. There is also a washer/dryer inside the units, which is wonderful. It's not full-sized, but it's a heck of a lot better than hauling things to a laundry room or laundromat. Never had any issue with roaches, bedbugs, or mice/rats/whatever other kind of vermin. The ants do sometimes make their way in during the spring when it rains a lot, but management has always been good about getting the exterminator in as soon as possible. They are a good company and don't have to repeat themselves, not until the next spring anyway. Overall, I like this place and think it's good - just expensive.
