Nice Place to Live
The challenge for arrivals at this site in search of a place to live is to cull from the list of reviews the terminally dissatisfied, the axe-grinders, those harboring personal vendettas, the management plants and the oddball collection of internet weirdos up to god knows what. I shopped on this site prior to signing at The Elms and was taken aback at the apparent evil happening at what seemed on the surface to be a perfectly decent apartment complex. I'm happy to report that the internet weirdos were wrong and the place is just as nice as it appeared. Honestly. And no, I have no affiliation with management other than when I call them to unplug my drain, which by the way is easily requested through their website. Takes two seconds. As one new to apartment living I'm still adjusting to some things - for instance being interrupted in a game of nerf dart war by a strident bellowing of QUIET! in the hall - but this is a very nice place to live. The apartment itself is open, bright and spacious, with plenty of closet space. I have a top floor unit so there's even an expansive cathedral ceiling. Even got me a corner fireplace with a fake fire! It's a pleasant place that quickly felt like home. I couldn't be more pleased with the management team. They have reasonable hours of operation, a 24x7 support plan and are incredibly responsive. I had a couple of little things to fix (weatherstripping, a circuit panel I couldn t find) and they were all over it. First issue was resolved within 24 hours. I simply came home and it was fixed. The second was after-hours and an engineer called me back within 15 minutes. The property managers have also been great, following up to make sure everything has been resolved. As someone in the customer service realm I've been very impressed. The Elms is in a sweet spot just off route 100, though its proximity to Chik-Fil-A is making my pants fit tighter. My one complaint is about the guy in the Volkswagen who can't seem to park between the lines. In a parking lot that tends to get crowded that daily mistake gets irritating. Nice pools. A solid little gym. A neighborhood clubhouse where they have parties. They even had a Halloween breakfast thing where they handed out free breakfast to residents as they drove to work. Sorry I missed that. My neighbors are quiet and maybe not as demonstrably friendly as I'd like, but that's probably more a function of the transient nature of the residents than anything else. Yeah, sure, the rent is a little high. There isn't a decent place to throw a ball within a short walk. The carpet ain't from Persia. The oven is builder-grade garbage. But it's an apartment people, not Versailles, and anyone who expects more probably needs to adjust their expectations. For those shopping for a place to live, rest assured that The Elms is worth a longer look.12/12/2011
