Just thought I'd toss in my own impressions. Moved here a month ago, and I couldn't be happier. Agree that the rents are high (this isn't Annapolis, after all), but then you could make that argument about most places in the U.S. We really need rent control in this country. While the government is looking for ways to bail out homeowners, they should be looking into the rental housing situation in this country too. It's time renters were afforded some protections. Anyway, back to Marley Run. I've made full use of all the community amenities, and for me it was a big selling point for moving here. I work from home so I was concerned about noise during the day (and evening). Not a problem at all. Very quiet. Buildings are well sound-proofed. My apartment was in fantastic shape, very clean. (My only criticism is that the outside windows were and still are dirty. Surprised they spent so much cleaning the inside of the apartment, and completely neglected the outside windows, which not being on a ground floor, I can't reach to clean myself.) What a lovely surprise on move-in day to find a Welcome package on the kitchen counter and a fresh mat outside the front door. Sometimes the little things DO matter. They can go a long way toward making you feel like you're spending your money wisely, that you matter. People here are very friendly, and I can't praise the leasing office and maintenance staff enough. Just super people. They go above and beyond duty. My only minor criticisms thus far are, considering the relatively high rental prices (I'm in a 2BR, 2BA end unit), I was surprised at the cheap carpeting and the outdated appliances (White-Westinghouse? Do they even exist anymore? LOL). And the bathroom fixtures are a little on the low end. Minor stuff, and considering how great everything else is, easily overlooked. The only major criticism I have is the barnyard behavior of those residents living here who don't break down their boxes and put them in the recycle bin, or throw regular trash in the recycle bin, or dump their trash alongside the trash area, instead of walking a few steps to deposit your trash actually IN the compactor. Are people that incredibly lazy? Did those particular people previously live in a trailer park and just don't know any better? (Personally, I think the leasing office should install video cameras at the trash center, and then print out pictures of "trash violators" and post them on the front door of the leasing office. Maybe that would shame people into behaving with more respect for their fellow residents and the environment itself.) Oh, and just one general comment about pet fees/pet deposits. I'm fine with a pet deposit. But I think charging people an additional $30 a month is obscene. Even if you live here only a year and have a Rotweiler that tears up the carpeting and pees all over the floors, the cost for repairs would not come close to what a pet owner pays per year to have pets. It's just obscene, I think. And if that additional money is for dog waste removal, the trash bag doggie stands throughout, and upkeep of the doggie park, then charge DOG owners a higher amount. Why should cat owners have to pay for dog amenities?
