Incompetent Management, Good Maintenance, Great Location, So-So Interiors

The management of Falkland Chase is the real reason one might wish to avoid living here. They are truly awful. One of my favorite stories: rather than looking up the sticker number for my parking permit and contacting me, when work had to be done on a building near where my car was parked, they simply towed my car to another location in the complex without my permission. One might think they would have then informed me of where they put it. One would be wrong.

Another great one: they advertise washer/dryer hook-ups as a feature of the complex. Such hook-ups may exist in some (a few?) apartments, but certainly not in mine. I´m stuck using their laundry rooms. They were nice enough recently to pull out all of the Maytag washer/dryers, and use another service company that installed "super bright" (or something) machines. High quality stuff. They informed us that this was for our benefit, as we would save on detergent when using the new machines. Unfortunately, they neglected to mention that they were also raising the cost of using the machines, which sort of offset the psychological benefit of having such "great" machines. Paying for laundry here can be quite expensive, but fortunately it provides a nice profit for the national conglomerate that operates this complex.

As one previous reviewer wrote, if you do live here, get everything from the management office in writing. One of my favorite contacts with the management office involved speaking with an employee over the phone who asked me to call back the next day, so that my request could be worked on. When I called back the next day, the same employee continually asked, "And WHO did you talk to? You talked to ME?" Their service isn´t quite where one would hope.

Management does stay in touch frequently though. We get incoherent notices delivered that often have a threatening tone (e.g. notices that indicate a great desire on the part of management to tow your car).

The location is great--in terms of being across the street from Metro. Silver Spring is truly a horrible place to live, but it can be pretty convenient to many places.

The apartments themselves are quaint. They are sort of basic, but adequate, with hardwood floors and plaster walls. The kitchens and bathrooms (usually one per apartment) are woefully outdated and inadequate. The electrical system is inadequate for modern needs. There are a maximum of two outlets per room. One gets the sense here though that whoever owns the complex does not want money spent on any sort of capital improvement.
