Risky Place to Live

I totally forgot about this webiste, until I got an update, and after reading the latest review I felt compelled to also warn others about Keelers Corner.

We moved in to KC in early 2001. We were pleased by the looks of the grounds, the apartments were fairly nice sized, and appreciated the laundry room. Things went fairly well, until suddenly there was "new" management. Then it turned into a bit of a nightmare.

Maintenance: On more than one occasion we had appliance problems. We happened to live in an apt. where a "manager" used to live and they had installed a different linoleum. The maintenance guy actually accused US as having altered the apartment. We had to go through several hoops to get it documented that we DID not touch the linoleum. Our refrigerator broke down twice...we never did get a new fridge, instead we got hand me downs, and they didn't bother to adjust the door...try opening a fridge the wrong way.

Security: There is none. Our vehicles were broken into 4 times during our time there. Our neighbors vehicle was broken into at least 3 times. In both cases our cars sustained pretty substantial damamge. Keeler's response, sorry, but that's not our problem. The police are well aware of the problem and claim that since there are no security gates that prowlers are able to enter at one end, and exit another. Keeler's made not response to our requests for a gate or cameras. And then there was the morning we got up to strands of yellow tape and 9 police cars...yep, a murder. The apartment was rented out less than a month later...I still wonder if those tenants know.

Because of my job, I was usually up very early, and on more than one occasion found some person lurking about the grounds by apartment patios (this at 3am and 4am). I called the police, but they always took too long to get there.

Oh, and if you are looking at a place along the back side of keelers on 48th, forget it, at 2am, that street becomes drag car central. Cars love to race the road late at night. I was afraid to walk along that road!

Grounds: these were kept up well, but like other reviewers they are pretty "crappy" literally! The trash containers were always overfilled, and gross, and we spotted people not living there actually dumping stuff...again, Keeler's response...what do you want us to do??!

Neighbors: We had nice neighbors, but there was just too much information sometimes since you could hear the fights as well as "other" things.

Staff: Typically, nice, but there were a few jerks who made life just annoying as hell! As a mom, with two little ones (ages less than one, and two) I would park in front of the apartment (along the red stripe) to unload my kids and bring in groceries. On more than once occasion, I would get this loud knock, and there stood Mr. Maintenance, saying, "you need to move your car, or I'm going to have it towed!". Such helpful people. When he came over a month later, he was really ticked, "move your car now!". I said go ahead and call the tow truck...by the time they got there I was back in my parking spot...he was a real jerk.

Parking: In a word, sucks! Covered spots and garages are ridiculously priced. no security, and forget it if someone happens to throw a party! We had more than a few cars abandoned on 48th...that was a nice view...broken down cars lining the streets. Oh, and while we were out of town, we got a towing warning from Keelers becuase our tabs expired while we were out of state!!!!!! Thank god we got back before they hauled our car away...we called the office and asked what the hell! They told us that they don't allow cars on their property with expired tabs! Yeah, okay, never mind the trashy boat, broken out windows, vehicle thefts, etc. You keep watching those tabs!

Move Out: Yes, we had problems with this too! We actually hired professional cleaners and paid about 250.00, and they cleaned to perfection since as a new mom I wasn't about to do a move out clean-up! However, keelers' claims that it was just too messy for their liking! And like the other reviewer, we did not hear from them until we recieved a collection letter....which took 6 months to clear up. They finally dropped it as they did not have any evidence, and could not account for their charges, including their attempt to collect on a bogus claim for a power and water bill that were twice the amount they should have been....in fact, we didn't owe the power/water bill, as they had been paid and we were able to prove it with copies of our paid bills.

Keeler's is a nightmare....conisder yourself warned!
