Dysfunctional

My wife and I were originally impressed with the manager and the apartments seemed adequate, if a bit on the smelly side. We were able to live with the blemishes (sloping floor, decrepit building, thin walls, low light, lots of road noise, limited parking, high crime area) because the price was so low for a studio with a full kitchen. We enthusiastically initiated the application process. As soon as we paid for the credit check, though, the trouble started. We had no feedback for days and our emails went unanswered. Total radio silence. When the manager did finally get back in contact with us after our credit check successfully went through, she began to push us to pay, even though she still hadn't answered a number of our questions from much earlier (parking permits, cost breakdown, etc). Finally, on the day that we were supposed to sign the lease and move in, she pulled out (remember, we had already passed the credit check and packed up to move). Her reason? We didn't have cell phones (we just got back from living overseas). We got the feeling, though, that she just didn't like us for whatever reason. Beware the insanity at the Abbotsford. We were a little relieved to get out having only paid the credit check fee. Our dealings with the management started off well, but soon spiraled into long, sarcastic, condescending email screeds with very little information or help.
