I've lived here for a couple years, and the rent increases have been insane given the fact that it's not a great neighborhood. It's barely in Seattle - one block over and you're in Shoreline - and there are zero cute bars or restaurants nearby. Instead you have Goodwill and the Dollar Store. (And the clientele that goes along with those.) Nothing wrong with that kind of neighborhood, but that's why the rent hikes are crazy. After my first year, they upped the rent by $40. I was told at the time that this was the most my rent would ever go up in one year. Well, that was a lie because this year they are raising it by $80/month. I'm afraid they're going to double that amount again next year, since that appears to be the trend. And my apartment is nice, and management is very helpful, but the totally "meh" location really doesn't make it seem worth the $1000 PER YEAR rent hikes.
Just my two cents. If you move in to this far away neighborhood thinking you'll get a steal on rent, beware - it won't last.
