Not bad, until you move out...
I lived at the Park Tower for 7 years. I would have recommended it to anyone *while I was living there.* When you move out, it's a totally different story. The place is decent for the price, but there are some issues (as with any older building). There are no fans in the bathroom, so the paint cracks and mildew builds up quickly and they WILL charge you for that and for anything else they can think of when you move out, no matter how good a tenant you were. I was charged for various issues that were clearly noted on the move-in inspection (replacement of a cabinet with a burn mark on it from a former tenant, and replacement of linoleum in the kitchen that was cut and peeling when I moved in), as well as for removing hand rails that the tenant before me placed in the pantry. They also charged for cleaning the bathroom (even though I hired a professional cleaning crew to clean it when I moved), and for dusty blinds. And here's the thing--they charge a nonrefundable cleaning fee when you move in. According to the Revised Code of Washington, a tenant is not to be charged for normal cleaning when a nonrefundable cleaning fee has been charged. Bleaching bathtub grout and cleaning dusty blinds is certainly normal cleaning to be expected when readying an apartment for a new tenant, by any reasonable standard. When I pointed that out in writing, their only response was "A nonrefundable fee is exactly that--nonrefundable." In addition, they completely ignored the first two letters I sent (one by certified mail) informing them that their move-out checklist and assessment of charges was incorrect. They just assume that you don't know your rights and/or won't bother to fight. And they're partly right--the only reason I kept at it was because the rental deposit was part of my deceased husband's estate and I was obligated to collect as much as I could. I had to get my probate lawyer to write a letter before they even bothered to respond. I think I could have successfully fought them in court, but by that point I was just too damn tired. Yes, I'm angry about this. It's just... wrong. I had a good experience living here, but because of the way I was treated when I moved out, I can't recommend this property to anyone anymore.Share This Review
