Resident 2012 - 2015

3/31/2015

I've mostly enjoyed my time at RMV: maintenance has usually been very responsive, and there is definitely a positive community feeling. We are friends with our neighbors and hang out and grill and the kids play together. The grounds are lovely and well-maintained. The "heated pool" they advertise hasn't actually been heated in years, but other than that it's a really nice property. However, I'm just done with the staff. When we first moved in my husband was looking on his phone at a quick list of things to check in a new apartment before accepting the keys. We couldn't get there to sign the lease until the end of the day, so I can totally understand why the leasing agent was in a hurry on the initial walk-thru to get out of there and go home. Really. I get it. But she accused him of wasting her time by texting on his phone and physically got in his face. I told her he was not texting, but she literally got nearly nose-to-nose with him and stared him down and made very hostile and challenging comments. I cried after she left. Not a good start. Things were okay for a while after that, though. We were really happy here. We decided to renew our lease and had set up auto-pay online. When the new lease began, though, auto-pay stopped working. The new lease term had not been applied our profile in the system, I guess. We did not discover this until we came home to find a five-day notice on our door. My husband went in and of course they didn't believe him. They eventually refunded us the late fees, but not the legal fees. I know legal fees are pretty much never refunded by any management companies, I assume for Fair Housing reasons, so whatever. But then it happened again the next time the lease was extended. Another five-day. Same argument. After a lot of grousing on our part they agreed to refund us all the management's late-fees and half the legal fees. We deactivated auto-pay and decided to pay rent in person each month. So we paid next month's rent a little early. Today my husband was by the office and decided to stop in and make sure all was good (and that they were organized enough to keep track of the check so long before rent was due). He inquired about the status of our rent payments and was told we had not paid for the next month. He checked and found that the rent check he'd given them 10 days ago had been cashed. He confronted the manager, who looked through a big book of copies of checks. She found the copy of ours. Turns out they took our check and APPLIED IT TO SOMEONE ELSE'S ACCOUNT. If he hadn't already dealt with their mistakes enough to doubt them and double-check in person we would have seen yet another five-day and more legal fees to argue about! Oh, and for a while there was someone peeping in windows, including ours. Then two apartments near us were burglarized recently. Our neighbor whose apartment was robbed today went to the office and asked about their copy of her key. The office did not have a spare key at all! They had LOST THE KEY! So done with this place. It's a shame, because it's been a great place to live apart from the management.
