My roommate and I originally chose this place because the floor plans are so large that you can double the rooms (beds and desks dorm-style) easily, but the stress that this place has caused us has really not worth the price nor the space. 1. Our closet light has been broken since the day we first moved in (over 3 months ago). I don't know what the heck maintenance has been doing, but every single time (of there has been 4-5) they come in, the light breaks again a few weeks later. 2. The place is infested with all manners of roaches (we found a few when we were moving in hiding in our cupboards), silverfish, huge spiders, termites (which rain down on my roommates bed from time to time), and more recently ... bedbugs! 3. Our dryer has been broken since the day we moved in. We've asked them repeatedly to replace it, and they keep coming in, looking at it, and telling us that they'll replace it, but then not. Finally, since it was damaging all our clothes, we asked them to either replace it or compensate us for the over $100 in damage that it's caused. We appealed both to the maintenance and finally the leasing office. The leasing office were absolute as*****s about it and told us "Well, you should have gotten renter's insurance, that would have covered it." When we informed them that renter's insurance doesn't cover damages caused by appliance failures because they assume (duuuurh!) that the apartment's management is going to take care of things like that, they cut us off and told us we were "getting off topic", that our dryer was coming in a week and hung up on us. 4. The leasing office told us ahead of time that we'd be checked for bedbugs. And we were pretty much like whatever ... then we found that many of the units in our building at bedbugs and that we had to get all our stuff heat treated, sealed, and packed away from the carpeted areas by the 20th. We were told this on 14th of finals week. My roommate's flight was on the 15th, and mine was on the 16th. We didn't sleep for 3 nights straight trying to dry everything. When we asked the leasing office if we could change the dates, they were really rude about it, so then we asked them why they didn't just give us notice about treatment dates, and they're response was "Well, the office knew" ... yeah, but not the people for which it mattered. They told us to either get it done, or we'd be fined $1000. So during finals, we were doing laundry ... and since our dryer was already broken, we had to carry our last loads to a friend's place to dry. 5. Our internet is out for the count ... you might think that it's Time Warner's problem ... but no. During finals week (again!), our internet stopped working. Time Warner came in, checked our modem, our cable, our router ... and then finally determined that it was a wire within the apartment building itself that was the problem. So now, they've sent a bunch of forms to the leasing office for them to fill out so that their guy can go into the building's connections and fix the problem. What the Hell is up with the management and the apartments? And I haven't even mentioned all the mold, the smells, the poor ventilation, the kids at 8 a.m. and the people who're out drunk and partying at 5 a.m., and the false fire alarms that go off every other week. It feels like the leasing office takes advantage of the fact that the majority of the renters are college students to try and cheat as much of our money as possible, thinking that most of us won't put up a fight. When it's their fault, we pay a fine; when it's extenuating circumstances, we pay a fine; when it's someone else's fault we pay a fine; and if it's ever our fault then we pay an arm and a leg. I wonder if the manager is skimming the extra cash for herself or if the parent company approves of how corrupt they are.
