Resident 2013

12/10/2013

I just moved into this beautiful, well-maintained, mostly-staffed with friendly folks in management. It is one of the better places in the Bay Area. It is worth the price you pay for in terms of space, beauty, quality and location. Can't speak more highly. And now for the downsides: Security: The apartment, even with its security patrol and other security measure has not been able to solve the persistent peeping tom (report as long ago as October 2012) issue. Within the first week of moving there, into my first floor apartment, I had a horrible experience of a stranger peeking into my bedroom. This problem was repeated at 2:30 a.m. a few weeks later with the peeping tom breathing heavily outside the window. Needless to say, I was terrified and traumatized by this unexpected event. Police was called and security patrol was increased but with no success. So, if you are a single woman, be sure to not live on the first floor. I have not experienced any other issues with security since I moved into the second floor apartment. Management: Most of the staff is really sweet, considerate and accommodating. However, the property manager leaves a lot of room for improvement in the customer service orientation. Also Prometheus as a business is all about business not people. After the second security incident, it seemed fair that the apartment transfer my lease to another unit on higher floor without any change. But the financial returns orientation of the business charged me for a whole new lease invalidating the old lease and costing me a good pile of money. They were considerate enough to retain the rent but they invalidated the 3 weeks free deal they had offered me on the first floor apartment which had enticed me there in the first place. Also, the property manager forced me to wait until the last minute before the movers were to arrive to move before he gave me the new lease - leaving no time for negotiation. In addition I got charged the full cleaning fee $100 and water/sewage $130 for living in the first floor apartment for only 3 weeks. They behaved as if the security problem was not their problem to be borne financially and that the lessee be charged as if they were moving voluntarily. The property management is not concerned at all about your safety and well-being but only about their financial returns. After this, when I did receive my keys and lease at 3 p.m, the property manager expected me to move my whole apartment within the night or I was to pay rent for the next day. Needless to say, this was significantly financially and emotionally distressful for me. I am considering legal action and calling for counsel on this matter. Online payment stuff: In today's economy when one can do all the financial transactions electronically , this outfit cannot get their information systems handling right. I setup an online payment system with them when I moved in. I was diligent in paying all their dues , including the bogus ones they charged me above. However, when I moved the apartments, their online payment system couldn't be updated to reflect the change and my payment setup got lost. Come time to pay the next month's rent,I couldn't pay the rent online. This was a major inconvenience that they solved by asking me for a second email address to use for the second apartment. At the rents they charge, all this should not be happening. Their responsibility towards your security is abysmal. Buy a taser or a gun to handle the peeping tom. And have loads of money to waste if you want to live here.
