Resident 2005 - 2006

7/10/2006

We moved to Colorado from out of state and have lived at the Summit Apartments for about one year. We were attracted to this complex by the great views, aesthetically appealing landscaping, wonderful location to the Flatirons Crossing Mall, restaurants, Highway 36, etc., and the "newness" of the apartments. After moving in, we found that the maintenance response was good, as was their professionalism. There are also a fair amount of activities for residents to engage in that are at no cost (and are good quality - e.g. Gordon Beirsch "catered" event).

Then time went on...and the first thing we noticed was a persistent foul odor in the hallway from a residents' cooking. Eventually, the trash chutes were overflowing on the weekend and producing a foul odor, not to mention a horrid mess in the trash chute rooms. Management could stand to hire a waste management company that would empty the trash on the weekends because rotten trash s-t-i-n-k-s.

Next came the notes from the Management, written in an unprofessional and demeaning tone, which demanded resident compliance on the two things that the complex could make money from: clutter on the balconies and parking. How so? Well, they demand that residents take items off of balconies and buy storage space from them at a premium charge. Same with parking - they will stick a big orange paper sticker on the window of your car (which is a terrible pain to remove) even if you forget to put your parking decal up at night when parked in the garage, and demand that you purchase additional parking spaces in the (3/4 empty) garage at, yet another, premium charge per month.

Construction of the buildings is not good and I can hear the neighbor above me urinating into the toilet and flushing, while laying in my bed. Also while laying in my bed, at 2:30 a.m. when all of the party-goers within the complex leave their apartments in building 200, I can hear their voices quite clearly and wake me up from a DEAD SLEEP. And they aren't even talking loudly - just a normal voice. When calling the security patrol to resolve this issue, I find a distinct lack of any response to resolve this issue and the Management stating that, even though the lease states that quiet hours in the complex begin at 10:30 p.m., I should instead "close my windows."

Then there are the wonderful neighbors in the "affordable housing" units within the complex, who look like former resident thugs of East Colfax in Denver, who enjoy propping open the doors that are locked and meant to secure the rest of the residents from...well...people like them. These rowdy party goers populate the fire lanes with their vehicles outside of the buildings every night. Given the age and apparent lack of maturity of these residents and their visitors, I think that keeping the fire lanes clear is quite prudent.

Don't expect the business center printer to be operational - make sure you keep enough ink for your printer on hand because you can't rely on this printer as a backup when yours runs out.

The fitness center is most always a filthy, disgusting mess with animal hair and dirt layered on the floor. Additionally, the room is extremely warm. Not a pleasant environment to work out in – for sure.

And if you love your pet - keep it away from this complex. One of those complex-wide notes written in the usual unprofessional tone from the Management stated that it was known that there were animal diseases being spread among pets due to the animal feces everywhere on the complex grounds.

I can’t wait for my lease to expire and move out of here so I can regain some sanity and dignity in the place I call “home.”
