Resident 2011 - 2012

7/3/2012

When I first moved into the Renaissance Apartments, everything was peachy--the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. However, after the new management took over (ConAm/Addison at Cherry Creek), I was not pleased whatsoever. I am typically not one to complain, but I feel like this review is necessary in order to let future tenants know what to expect. First of all, when the management switched over, they switched to a new online payment system. When I first signed on and created an account, I was already having technical glitches. I called the front office and a staff member took my information down to contact me once it was resolved--I never received a phone call, so I decided to just pay with a check from then on. Likewise, I would praise the management for sending out regular notifications. For instance, they gave us a notification letting us know that there were a high number of burglaries occurring around the complex, however when I called in to see if there was an update on that situation as far as preventative measures, the front office staff said, "No, we have no control over that." Yes, I understand they can't control the thieves' actions, but at least reassure me, the tenant, in a better manner. So I asked the same gal if I could get a local police department to report a suspicious individual and she told me to, "Google it." Are you kidding me? Shouldn't you have that number handy? At that point, I just had it. Later on, I wanted to talk to the manager about this conversations, yet another staff was more willing to reassure me after I told her about the conversation and situation. On the topic of front office staff and notifications. Maintenance often sends out notifications regarding repairs and projects--sometimes the notifications are to the point; other times they are very vague. I had a confusion about one notification and called the front office staff. One front office staff member said that the maintenance team and the front office rarely communicated and they were unaware of the notifications that maintenance sent out from time to time. Is there something wrong with this picture? I am in the process of purchasing a home now, and I needed a print-out showing evidence that I have paid rent at this complex for a year. I called into the front office and they assured me that they would be able to easily print it out for me. When I stopped by the office, the front staff member was only able to print me out 6 months worth of rent. Apparently, he could not pull the first 6 months of paid rent from the previous management because they switched to a new system. I don't have an extensive IT background, but is it not common sense to have that information backed up somehow? He suggested that my home loan lender fax him a formal request for the information--I am the tenant here, yet I cannot get the information myself? It makes no sense to me. The same front office staff member that "helped" me with that problem, told me to expect a sticker on my door the day after I signed my official move-out paperwork. The sticker basically was just a form of letting me know that maintenance would come by the next day to do a pre-inspection. I waited the next day and there was no sticker. Several days passed and no sticker. I asked another front office staff about the sticker system and she looked at me like I was crazy. I told her specifically who told me that protocol and she gave him a look as if he knew nothing. So I think the trend with the front office staff is that they are not on the same page as far as protocol and information goes--which then confuses the hell out of the tenant. I know this complex says that it's a gated community, but I beg to differ. The gates are ALWAYS open! The complex is so contradicting--it says gated community, however maintenance or the management never puts funds into maintaining the gates. They rather put money into paint jobs and such. Lastly, as I am soon happily departing this complex, the front office staff reassured me that they had the BEST rates in town, so I should reconsider renewing my lease with them. If the rates are increasing $100/month, I think not. Also, with the poor front office services, the place is definitely not worth my time and money. I much rather invest in a home. Good luck if you plan on making this complex your future home.
