Resident 2014

We have loved our experience at these beautiful new apartments up until recently. These are gorgeous, modern apartments with lots of great amenities and in a superb location. I'm not one to post many reviews online, but I feel like as a mother potentially considering moving into North Main, I would want to know what we've experienced. To make a long story short, we've had a HORRIBLE infestation of cockroaches for well over a month in our building (5). After doing significant research on the pesticides used by the pesticide company they hired, we spoke with the office manager and office staff, letting them know our concern about the potentially adverse effects of the chemicals on our 16 month old baby boy and dog (not only is our baby's small body more susceptible to toxins, but he is also still in the mouthing phase, where he puts everything in his mouth, such as his toys that get rolled around on the floor.) We expressed that we understood North Main's need to take care of the cockroach problem in an effective manner and that we knew it was simply an unfortunate situation with no one to blame. Given our circumstances, however, we asked if they would be willing to use a nontoxic pest control company in our unit. We didn't feel this was an unreasonable request given that there are a plethora of green pest control companies in the Denver/Boulder area that are supposedly just as effective and much, much safer. North Main informed us that they are contractually obligated to use their (non-green) pest control company. They asked us to meet with their Terminex representative (presumably to help assuage our concerns over the toxins). He was very polite, open and honest with us and outlined in detail the procedure he would be using to treat our apartment. He stated, "I can't legally tell you that the chemicals we use aren't harmful to children and pets, because they are. All I can do is try to regulate the amount I use." Given that information and the amount of the chemicals needed to treat our apartment's horrible infestation, we asked if it would be possible to switch units or end our lease, both of which they denied. They also informed us that if we terminated our lease early, we would not only lose our deposit but owe a $2,000 fine. In the end, after many, many unsuccessful conversations with North Main and exhausting all of our other options, we agreed to have our apartment treated by Terminex and we will be leaving town for several weeks (at our cost) to allow the toxins to air out. They said they understood our concern and stated that they were trying to work with us, but, in reality, we offered them several avenues through which to do so and they denied them all. They finally offered to give us a $100 rental credit for our inconvenience. Not only have we had to live in a horrible infestation of cockroaches for over a month (and I mean HORRIBLEâ?¦ killing probably 50-100 bugs a day and having to wear shoes at night to avoid the SWARM of bugs everywhere!), but the office staff and manager have been anything but helpful and we are incurring the cost of hotels for several weeks to allow the toxins to dissipate. They may not be legally obligated to offer us alternative solutions to the pest control toxins used in this situation, but they definitely weren't willing to work with us given our concerns for the health of our baby boy. This entire process has been incredibly stressful. We have to bag up all of our belongings and cover them with sheets in order for the apartment to be bombed with chemicals and now we will have to be out of the apartment for several weeks. This has definitely been the worst rental experience we've ever had. Stay clear of these cockroach-infested, chemical-laden apartments, especially if you have pets and children!

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, s.c.h. We are very sorry to hear that you have not enjoyed your time here. We value your feedback and your opinion matters. This definitely does not meet company standards and my up most deepest apologizes to you s.c.h. as I have a little one as well. I can assure you that as the new Manager this is not the level of customer service we strive to provide. Our residents concerns and suggestions for a solution is highly regarded. Yazmin
