Resident 2011

12/1/2011

Best part of our stay in Wilmington!

The Residences at RS is great - I feel it's safe, modern and well-kept. It's nice to have a gym onsite and I have found that it is rarely crowded. I find the staff - from the Concierge(s), to the leasing agents to the maintenance staff - to be friendly and helpful. There are also additonal perks, like the movie rentals, the club room, the dog friendly policy and activities for residences (producted and promoted by a 3rd party). I do have a few minimal complaints - but all said and done, they would not deter me from renting here again. These include a dishwasher that does not dry the dishes, poor shelving in the closets (twice the shelving in the bedroom closet collapsed and once in the hallway shelving. This said, the maintenance staff was quick to fix it) and windows that do not have screens. The biggest complaint I have is the parking - when we moved in the management company had a deal with a parking company at which we could park in a garage 2 blocks away for $50. A few months into our lease, the garage was closed and the only other options we had was a self-park about 4 blocks away and the valet under the building. It is just shy of $150 per car, per month, so as you can tell that was a sizeable unexpected cost. We opted for the valet under the building which is a pain, as it always takes forever to get our car! Please note, parking on the street is not an option unless you are willing to risk the safety of your car! I will warn you not about the building you may be moving into, but the location you are moving into. When we moved to Wilmington because of a job transfer, we knew nothing about the area. We visited on a week day in the early afternoon. Downtown Wilmington seemed bustling with corporate people and had tons of restaurants/coffee shops open. We were dismayed to learn that once the clock strikes 5, the demeanor of the neighborhood changes. The business professionals leave and most of the restaurants & shops close. It goes from a seemingly nice, urban area with things to do and places to eat to one that is abandoned and unsafe (I do not walk by myself outside after dark). If you want to go to a restaurant or get a cup of coffee after 5pm or on weekends, your walkable options are slim to none. In the 10 months we've lived here the restaurants on either side of the Residences (Vinoteca & the Public House) have both closed, not to mention countless others. We are leaving the Residences at RS at the end of our lease (March) NOT because of the apartment but because we cannot stand downtown Wilmington. Coming from living in DC, there is absolutely nothing to do and not to mention, feels unsafe. Those would be my words of advice... best of luck. Best of luck in your apartment search
