Resident 2012

8/16/2012

Moving into The Ashlar when it was still managed by their former company, wasn't too bad. The walls are paper thin, we had the worst luck because we had a family living next door that had 2 small children, and they would cry ALL night long. We had an enormous leak in our apartment that caused mold to grow in the walls, maintenance came out to fix it, but it took almost 1 week to get rid of all of it, and it was a huge inconvenience due to not having a washer or dryer, and they had to cut off the Ac when fixing the leak. Our AC blew out 3 times during our 7-month lease and it took them almost 3 days to come fix it each time. I had to complain about parking several times because there were many parties going on upstairs with these college kids and they had no consideration for others. Cigarette buds were found all over the floor on a daily basis, and once I complained to management, Jessie was on top of it right away and left notices on everyone's doors. However, these problems during our 7-month lease were NEVER 100% taken care of, because it was going on up to the end of our lease. Since our lease ended on July 31,2012, 1 week prior we had most of our things moved out, I had the carpets steam-cleaned, and the apartment cleaned by a professional company. I turned in our keys on July 31, 2012 with a professional letter. My intentions were to leave this apartment in immaculate condition, in which I did. I received a letter in the mail just a few days ago and I got charged $300 because I sent my "60 day Notice of Vacating the Premises/Not renewing my Lease Letter", 54 days before the end of my lease instead of 60 days. The leasing office couldn't find anything else to charge me for since the property was left in perfect condition, so they found anything they could, just for a quick buck. I was also charged for the 6 days at a pro rated amount from their rent increase to $1256.00, not from my rent that I paid on time every month in the amount of $969.00. I then spoke to the manager named Kimberly, she was NOT helpful one bit and basically explained to me there was nothing I could do about the situation except to pay the amount they charged me, and that although the apartment was left in "Immaculate condition" (her words) that was not good enough for them, because their jobs are to make money off of people which ever way they can. If the full amount was not paid, it would go on my credit. I will make sure that from now on, when someone mentions "The Ashlar Apartments" I will give them my bad experience, I will spread the word about this HORRIBLY ran establishment in any way that I can. If I can give you one piece of advice: GET COPIES OF EVERYTHING YOU SIGN, READ READ READ AND I MEAN READ THE ENTIRE LEASE WORD FOR WORD AND MAKE THEM EXPLAIN IT TO YOU, because I was never fully informed by Jessie (one of their staff members) of these charges that could occur. If you can, go through a Property Management Company when and if you decide to rent and try your best to stay away from Apartments. They are money hungry and will try to suck every single penny out of you. And most importantly, just stay away from this place and save yourself the headaches that come with it!
