Resident ā€¢ 2002 - 2004

4/8/2004

Okay...

Overall, living here has been an alright experience, but not one that I would want to repeat. Have lived here for two years, one in a 2BR and one in a 3BR. The 3 is definitely much nicer, with the possible exception of the corner 2BR apartments.

Good things: We have a huge kitchen and an even bigger living/dining area. The rooms are a good size, although my closet this year was about half the size as in the 2BR. Maintenance is excellent (as the last person said, especially Bob!) Parking hasnĀ“t been a problem this year because weĀ“re on the far side of a building so no one wants to park there unless they live on the first floor of that side. Office staff have been generally nice. Not necessarily helpful, but nice. Rent is actually not bad for all the amenities that you get. Despite the location, IĀ“ve never felt worried for my safety, and an alarm is sort of included with the apt. Close to a Wal-Mart/SamĀ“s, AlbertsonĀ“s, KashnKarry, Blockbuster, and Books a Million.

On the downside... noise from upstairs is ridiculous. I donĀ“t remember it being bad last year, but now it always sounds like people are running around or have pet elephants and are simultaneously playing jacks. Parties are kind of crazy during football season (donĀ“t plan on sleeping or studying over the weekends). Had one weird incident where water was coming from my bathroom wall (shared with the front closet--it was seeping out on both sides) and then just as spontaneously stopped. Also, people tend not to pick up after their dogs, so watch where you step. Internet is fine with a router, but weĀ“re still paying for one more bedroom this year, and yes, itĀ“s a ripoff.

As the last reviewer mentioned, do NOT try to set up an automatic bill pay through your bank! Just learned that the hard way this month.

The other somewhat major problem that weĀ“ve had involved paperwork and miscommunication while we were "renewing" for 2003-4, I guess because we were moving to a different apartment. There was confusion over the security deposit, what needed to be filled out, etc. And they WILL look to scam you on damages, above and beyond a $350 (nonrefundable) "redecorating" fee.

They advertise 3-pt-something miles from campus, but if you actually want to park your car, itĀ“s more like 5-1/2. And traffic on 13th street is awful.

Bottom line--as much as I donĀ“t want to go through the hassle of moving, and I like the actual apartments here, weĀ“re getting out.
