I'm a medical student who has lived in many condos, apartments, etc, as I have moved on an almost yearly basis for school over the past 8 years. I lived in Tortuga for 1 year. I have never been jerked around with fees like I have at Tortuga Bay. This apartment complex will initially seem good. The front desk guys at the entrance are initially cool to work with and nice. The paint, parking lot, etc is superficially nice. Once they have your money/contract things are different. And, like any huge company, they have the money to create a nice facade via there marketing department.
Read what others say on google review. Ironically, there are two people who gave it a 5... with no comment. Everyone else (who actually exist and have lived there) gave it a one star.
Where Tortuga Bay, and ultimately Equity Apartments will get you is on FEES. FEES to apply, FEES to move in, FEES to pay for their FEES. As you leave the apartment they will destroy you for the smallest things. Whether it be leaving a bottle of left over Comet cleaner in the cupboard to be nice to the cleaners ($15 "bag of trash"). Steam cleaning for a carpet that looked better than when we moved in ($50, and I hardly used the apartment). As others have said: YOU WILL NOT GET CLOSE TO YOUR FULL DEPOSIT BACK. It is part of their game. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TB or any other EQUITY brand apartment. What they bank on is that you are too busy to fight this crap and will just pay. If you do stay at Tortuga, take before and after pics so you can defend yourself.
