Resident ā€¢ 2009 - 2010

Good, not great apartment, but probably the best apartments in Hyde Park

We've lived here since May 2009 and for the most part, we have been pleased with the apartments. The location is awesome. You are within walking distance to Hyde Park Village, Bayshore Blvd, and all of the bars and restaurants on Howard Avenue. The area is very pedestrian friendly because it is a historic neighborhood. The maintenance staff is the best of any apartment I have lived in. They are always quick to fix things and Post has an online system that allows you to request maintenance fixes online and track their progress. We've also been pleased with the responsiveness of the office staff. The parking situation largely depends on what part of the complex you live in. We live in a unit in the back that borders Platt St., so we have ample parking back here. I always park right in front of my building, with no problem. However, the buildings closer to the entrance do not have as much parking, so those residents have a more difficult time with parking. Noise is definitely a problem here. The complex has a mix of families, older folks, and lots of young single people. Many of the young single people still party a lot and cause lots of disturbances. We had a problem when we first moved in with the tenants below us constantly making noise, playing loud music, and downright screaming. I tried to let it go on the weekends, but during the week, it simply isn't acceptable to be constantly awakened at 1 or 2 am. As a grad student, I still like to party, but these guys had no common courtesy for their neighbors. The office staff was helpful about this issue and eventually they moved out. Our new downstairs neighbors are nice and we haven't had a problem with them. Part of the problem is that the apartments are poorly constructed with thin walls that allow noise to easily travel. I highly recommend the third floor, or otherwise you are likely to hear your neighbors banging around. The pool areas are calm during the week and our packed during the weekends. Only the pool at the front allows alcohol, so that is where most of the party crowd goes. The back pool stays much calmer. Safety has never been a concern for us. No one has ever bothered us at night and our cars are safe. However, the apartment complex did notify us of a few breaks in that occurred and asked that we be vigilant to protect our things. The layouts of the apartments are good, but the fixtures and appliances are not new. The kitchen has your standard white appliances and look that went out of style in the 90's. If you are looking for marble and granite, this is not the place, but everything works well. Overall, I find the apartments to be a nice place to live. They are more pricey than I would like, but they are in a great location and are really the newest apartments in the Hyde Park area, even though they were built in 1996. Many of the apartments in the area are historic buildings that lack modern amenities. My only real pet peeve about the complex is the amount of people who live here illegally. You will get people who will rent a two or three bedroom apartment and then they will have their friends move in with them who are not on the lease. Since we have parking decals, it is easy to tell who does not live here. These people park in the visitor spaces and take them up for weeks at a time. Their is an older sedan with Indiana plates that has been parked in the same visitor space for over a month. These are often the people who I suspect cause some of the problems around the complex. The apartments are not perfect, but we have been very happy living here.
