I am going to provide the positive and the negative things I have experienced at Steelworks.
Positives - 1) I truly loved my floor plan and the price I paid for it. The studio apartment is perfect for a single person living in the city. 2) The Atlantic Station shuttle was helpful. It will take you to the Marta station. 3) Plenty of community events in the evenings. Pizza night, taco bar, pool parties, etc. 4) Community forum. If you do move in, I highly suggest joining the forum to hear what other residents have to say. Whether it is pet sitting services, events, or issues around the community. But keep in mind, management does delete posts on the forum.
Negatives - 1) Communication with the leasing office was the worst. When I first moved in, I was charged twice for my deposit. After getting no where with 3 leasing staff members, I ended up calling the Matrix Residential corporate office. The regional director emailed me within an hour and I was given back my refund. THEN, when I moved out, it took me 2 months to get my deposit back. I did not have any discrepancies to address. After vacating my apt on 4/29/16, the lease document states that I would get my deposit back no later than 30 days after my lease ended. I started emailing the leasing office since my phone calls were constantly going unanswered during business hours. After 2 weeks, I received my "final account statement" on 6/15. I finally received my check in the mail on 6/27 and saw that it was cut on 6/23. I believe that if I did not follow up with the apartment, I would have never received my deposit. I have personally witnessed several staff members standing around in the office while the phones were ringing. Not a single person even budged to get the phone. We did have 1 "community meeting" to talk about issues. But all the issues were falling on deaf ears. Constantly hearing them say "if we were to take this to corporate, what would you like to say?". They're not taking any of this to corporate. Why would they report the bad things that are happening? 2) Parking is an issue. Not enough guest parking. Yeah, they tried to enforce parking by putting on a few boots here and there and some warning stickers on the cars. My new apartment has half the number of apartments and has more floors of parking than Steelworks. Everyone parks behind the gate as well. 3) Noise - Yes, I know you will experience more traffic noise living in the heart of the city. Too many college kids. Running up and down the hallway, yelling, being loud. Also, living down the street from a fire station is not the best idea. Having to listen to it being dispatched at least 5 times a night gets old. 4) Maintenance - These guys do not know a thing about maintenance. Constantly repeating "well this is how it is" over and over again does not fix the issue. I started hearing an A/C unit rattle above me about 10 months into my lease (summer time). I went up to the roof and can hear the unit making more noise the others. But "that is how it is". I currently live on the top floor of my new apartment and I do not have this issue. Even something as simple as changing out a light bulb. I gave specific instructions as to which light fixture needed a new bulb. Yet, he showed up without light bulbs.
Steelworks Manager - Please do not post your generic "thank you for your feedback. If you have concerns, you can call us at blah blah blah". No, I will not be taking this discussion any further.
