Resident 2008

10/26/2008

I have been living in the Edgewater at Sandy Springs for approximately 2 weeks. I reluctantly gave up my previous apartment due to me starting grad school in the city and wanting to live a little closer to city limits. What lured me to the complex was the upkeep of the grounds but I should have realized this was not a great move for me and my family when I had to call the leasing office 6 times just to sign the lease and see the apartment. Day 1) We moved into the complex during the evening. We are located on the terrace level which is basically down a flight of stairs. There should be two lights to keep the exterior lit at night, otherwise it is extremely dark. Needless to say you would have thought the bulbs would have been replaced prior to us moving in. That was a sure warning sign that there were going to be problems. My husband came to view the apartment and had I been with him, I would not have taken this apartment. We chose the non-renovated unit because I don't need certain cosmetic upgrades in an apartment (i.e. painted cabinets, refinished countertops, new appliances, etc.); however, this particular unit is a pure dump! Granted it is indeed spacious but I would prefer to pay more money for a smaller apartment. When we first moved in I noticed a baby roach. I moved to ATL from NYC and am used to roaches so that tiny bug didn't bother me. I don't rely on maintenance to spray apartments for me as I think I do a better job at keeping bugs out. So I bought spray and sprayed as I did with my previous apartment. Unfortunately, that has not worked out too well. While the bugs die (I see them on the ground every single day) they are still present within the apartment. Roaches are not the biggest issue as big as the spider issue. I'm not terrified of spiders but for someone who is, I implore you to think twice before moving here. Let me not forget to mention the number of other bugs for which I can't identify. Issue #2 Maintenance is horrible (or whatever her name is) in the resident office is a true B. It took 3 days and 5 visits to have someone replace both bulbs to my apartment. I am not a single woman bug t I do have a child and it is not safe for anyone to go home at night under those conditions. The good thing about the complex is that the maintenance manager is GREAT! As soon as he overhears an issue, he is quick to fix it. Unfortunately, it has been a week and a few pressing issues have not been taken care of. Issue #3: The interior is completely outdated and the minor cosmetic issues are huge when you take notice to the intricate details. Issue #4: Last week when I was throwing out the garbage (which is a good distance away not within walking distance by far) I noticed a HUGE rat running across the wall. Now, as I stated earlier, I m from NYC so certain things don t surprise me but that sucker could have been a cat .LITERALLY! Issue #5: I decided to go ahead and do my laundry over the weekend. Out of 9 washing machines, only 2 worked. Out of 6 dryers, only 3 worked. I was told that we could use the laundry facilities on the other side of the complex, which so happened to be closed due to maintenance. As mentioned by another poster, I do not advise anyone to do their laundry at night as I think this is a huge safety issue. Issue #6 I am curious to know how much my gas bill is going to be as this apartment is freaking cold and it s not even winter! I had to purchase plastic to put over my windows. I could honestly go on and on and on about the issues with this complex but the bottom line is this: LOOK FOR SOMETHING BETTER ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN LOOK FOR SOMETHING BETTER AND IF IT IS A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE, CONSIDER THE PRO S ABOUT THE MORE EXPENSIVE PROPERTY.
