Resident ā€¢ 2008

1/18/2008

I moveed here around April 2007. It seemed to me that the leasing agents were pretty descent when they are showing the properties. I've should have known that the $150.00 deposit was too good to be true. They do say that "you get what you pay for". The apartment itself is not bad, I'm glad that I haven't had any major repairs or major bug issues, an occasional spider or ants. The thing that I didn't like was the fact that when I was moving here, the leasing people could not comprehend the moving date. They kept getting my moving date incorrectly, several times I had to inform them that I could not move until the end of April 2007 (was at another apartment, finishing out a lease). Twice the leasing people had gave my future apartment to someone else, causing me to change mailing addresses, turn utilities on & off in different units & calling the movers I hired several times to give them different addresses where I would be moving to. SUCH A INCONVENIENCE!! What made that bad was b/c I only had 2 weeks left & was worried about trying to find somewhere else to live in only a 2 week spand. TALK ABOUT SIMPLE-MINDED & UNPROFESSIONAL!! After the leasing people kept making the same mistake, they decided to put me in one of their apt "Villas" as they call them & b/c of their constant mishandling of the situation, they discounted my rent to the lowest rate they had available. THAT WAS GREAT!! The downside to that situation was that the apt was so small, I was unable to fit all of my belongings into the proper place, most of the things that I have sat in boxes, unopened; again ok, fine, can deal with it. I should have known when I was signing my lease, it took the lady almost 2 hours to get the lease contract done right (they were so worried about cooking popcorn & slicing fruit to get me in & out of the office, all the while my groceries were melting in the back of the car). I should've known that it was going to be a hot mess when the leasing office burned to the ground, still must of been cooking popcorn & jamming to the radio, who knows really? The first thing that they had to replace was the hot water heater & they added new carpet, no complaints here. But they did not place the hot water heater in correctly, & the gas man from GA Natural was unable to connect the gas to the apartment until the maintenance fixed it (something about the water heater maybe leaking carbon minoxide). The maintenance people are a little slow to respond to some repair issues & when you call the leasing office to request a repair they act like they are being bothered, NOT MY PROBLEM...I think that they feel a little superior to the residents & they think that they can just treat people any kind of way. It's ashame that you feel that you can't do business with your own people without the unprofessionalism & rudeness. Somne people have made comments about car break-ins & other things going on: I've seen someone's nice Dodge Magnum had their darn tires & rims removed!!! Just plain ridiculous! And yes, at least 2 people have been robbed, one as recently as Monday night & the other person a few months ago by gunpoint. I have been awakened several times by random gunfighting & I KNOW there isn't a gun range in site (that's really a bother), BUT NEVER HEAR ANY TYPE OF POLICE SIRENS IN THE AREA!! I guess this must be the norm for this area. Since I move in the area, there has also been at least 2 killings, a 18 yr old boy & some crazy man who was welding a knife at the gas station up the street (killed by DeKalb police). I feel that this place was very misguided & misjudged. I will be leaving here in the next few months (Thank God)! I can only give you my experience, but just advise that you do a lot of research before moving not only here, but anywhere in general. The leasing agents sucker new residents by giving out $500 Best Buy cards for signing a lease. But think of the things that you would be putting up with. You would have that nice 42 inch flat screen TV, but for how long? You may have someone kick in your door to get it, or even with the gunplay, they may put a bullet in it. Be careful what you sign for.
