Resident 2005 - 2006

8/30/2006

I strongly discourage anyone reading this to live at Barrington Lakes. The conditions of the apartment buildings are poor, and the mangement and staff are NOT there to help. The numerous complaints I have are also mentioned in other reviews, so these problems are obviously prevalent. NOISE: Until I read these reviews I thought my case was the exception, that I had somehow managed to move in under the one incredibly heavy walker. Apparently not the case, everyone has the same complaint. There were times I was seriously afraid the ceiling was going to cave in on me. HOURS: The hours for clubhouse/fitness/pool are terrible. They are convenient for office staff who work a normal workday, much like EVERYONE ELSE who would like to use the facilities when they are NOT at work. CONDITIONS: These apartments are old. The solution management has come up with seems to be white paint. LOTS of it. All counters, doors, walls, everything has about 5 coats of thick white paint on it. I think they probably just re-paint right over everything (yes, even hair) every time a tenant moves out. It's sick, and hard to keep clean. Not only can you hear everything your neightbors are doing, you can smell it too. The hallways are not ventilated and heat mixed with strong cooking odors are stifling to the point of holding your breath. My fridge was constantly full of water, none of the lightswitches did anything, and my fireplace never worked on time... which leads to: MANAGEMENT: I pretty much keep to myself, so I didn't request maintenance on the various problems in the apartment, I just dealt with it - but I have no problem believing that it was difficult to spur action to correct problems. Office staff is misleading and they are good at it. If you call with a question or problem the shuffle you around to your 'leasing agent' who never answers the phone or returns voicemail. Then you miss a deadline and your out of luck. One review mentioned that they are looking for a way to take your whole security deposit - I couldn't agree more. Make a copy of EVERYTHING you submit to these people and date it - they are very good at loosing crucial documents. Apparently "but it isn't in your file" is the end of the discussion, and say goodbye to your security deposit. I sat down and very civily tried to reason with these people, laying out in very simple terms my arguement. To dispute my assertion, the woman told a bold faced lie right to my face - and again, she was good at it. She simply made up and spit out an appropriate response on the spot. I believe it is probably the rule, not the exception, to rip off tenants. I also believe the numerous accusations that management is posting the 'wonderful' reviews on this website. Like I said in the beginning, I was hoping my bad experience was unique, but I have serious doubts. Just be aware.
