Resident 2008 - 2009

11/2/2009

I survived Barrington Lakes apartments and a few months ago I was able to escape at the end of my lease. This is the absolute worst place I have ever had to endure living. I had dents and scratches in my car by the time I left not to mention the fun of having my car broken into 3 separate times in one year. I was under continuous invasion of roaches and fruit flies which I am surprised the management did not try to charge me for as extra tenants since they try every other trick in the book to squeeze as much money out of you as possible. The apartment came with a refrigerator that constantly dripped water and fluctuated temperature so much I had trouble keeping anything in it because one night it would freeze everything and the next day it would be luke warm. After complaining several times and spending two months arguing with them that it was broken I determined it would be cheaper to just buy a mini fridge and use that rather than keep throwing food away. Management and maintenance were no help at all. They actually had the nerve to try to charge me for the refrigerator when I left. Once over winter I lost all heat in the apartment and it took two days for them to even check it out (I had to actually go stay with a friend during that time. Once they did check it out they found there was a bad pipe in the wall and also tried to charge me to fix this old pipe that had rusted out. It took 2 more days for them to get around to fixing the problem. The walls in this place are paper thin and you can hear anyone walking by in the hall, the apartments next to you and above or below you. The washing and drying machine were broke half the time and didn't work very well when they were working, so you would have to spend about double to get anything clean and dry. There was constantly trash in the halls which you had to complain about to get the cleaning crew to actually pick it up and clean. The pool they bragged about having was hardly ever open (they really didn't give an explanation for why it was closed all the time). The pond they brag about having smells and although they say they stock it with fish I have never seen one or caught one & everyone I asked had the same experience. There are a lot better apartments around for a lot cheaper than what you will pay here. Most of the other places around this area don't have the same number of cars being broken into or the murders that Barrington Lakes has had (oh yeah there were murders here too not to long ago). It is also nearly impossible to find parking in winter and your car will get plowed in when there is enough snow they will also claim they are not responsible for damage their plows cause. This is not a safe place to live either for your health, physical well being, or your property. If the only other place I could find to live cost $500 a month more than Barrington I would still pick the other place to avoid ever being around that place again luckily you don't have to pay that much extra and can even pay less to find better places.
