Resident 2002

8/6/2011

I recently moved from Windsor Lakes after almost eight years in residence. At first I was happy because it fit my needs and was inexpensive. As my first year lease was ending, my apartment flooded because the power went out during a storm and the pumps didn't have a power backup. I lost hundreds of dollars in furniture and several un-replaceable mementos. The management wouldn't pay to replace anything because they said it was up to residents to have renters insurance and accompanying flood insurance. Their solution was to put us up in a hotel for a few days while they decided what they could do for us. They then let us move to a third story apartment without raising our rent. A year later a "gas fee" was added raising rent by forty dollars a month. Rent has since been raised a couple more times bringing it to over a hundred dollars more than I was originally spending. Parking has occasionally been an issue, and the towing companies they have used have been very spotty in how often they inspect for non-residents. I have had many occasions when cars would be left in the same parking spot for days without a resident sticker or visitor tag, and yet I have had my own car towed for parking in a hash marked spot when there was no other available parking. As a final solution to the parking problem, someone decided to eliminate the handicapped parking. My fiance, who doesn't live with me but is a frequent visitor is handicapped due to a bad knee and several other health problems. When I asked about getting the spot put back by my building, I was told that they wouldn't because they "didn't have to". apparently since they were built before the Americans With Disabilities Act, they are not bound by it and refused to put a spot in unless my fiance was on my lease, which I didn't want to do and make him legally responsible for my apartment. Although they seem to seal the parking lot almost every summer, they have a hard time fixing pot holes. This year we had holes that were several inches deep and about four feet wide that emerged in February and weren't fixed until late June. The solution was to put a road construction barricade in the middle of the hole so that people would have to drive around it. The hole widened bit-by-bit until it covered a whole lane. After rain storms it flooded and became a secondary duck pond. I've been through several lousy neighbors including but not limited to loud music, yellers/fighters, and my favorite were the criminals. There has been at least once that the police broke down the door of a neighbor. Then there was the time that there were gunshots at three in the morning. I have had mouse infestations that maintenance's solution was to leave one sticky trap under my sink and never check on it again. I have had broken and sticking front doors that it took maintenance weeks and even months to fix. The fitness room is great when things work, but often treadmills or weights are broken for months at a time. It all looks great on paper, but I don't know what kind of half-assed, mickey mouse operation they are running.
