Resident 2007 - 2012

9/7/2012

My wife and I have been tenants with McKinley Properties (both at Brandywine and The Courts) for 5 years, referred friends to live here, paid rent on time, never damaged the property and really used to enjoy living here. Until we found mold in our apartment for the third time last week. The first time, they scraped a mushroom off the carpet, cleaned it and bleached the baseboards. The second time, they bleached the baseboards. We're in the middle of our third "fix" with them. We've been displaced from our apartment 9 days and counting and haven't once been offered a hotel or accommodations for our inconvenience. We were told the mold issue stemmed from a leaky A/C unit that we've made SEVEN service calls for this summer. It has been poorly maintained over the last 20 years. The dripping soaked the cabinets, carpet, and drywall. Last Tuesday, even after they told us they fixed the mold problem and we don't have to worry anymore, the A/C continued to leak. We moved our 3 month old daughter and two puppies out until we are provided with documentation that the mold is cleaned and we can return to a safe, clean home. Tonight I brought my 3 month old daughter and two Labrador Retrievers into the apartment office and asked the manager where we should stay since our apartment is still being fixed and undergoing treatment. ------------ (the apartment manager) said "We feel like we have been more than accommodating to you" - My wife, daughter, two dogs and I couldn't disagree with him more. --- offered us 15 days of rent credit if we signed a waiver saying we wouldn't seek any additional compensation from them. I told him that rent credits don't pay for hotels or cover any of our 'out of pocket' expenses and "WHERE SHOULD MY FAMILY STAY TONIGHT!!!?" I told him I was willing to stay at the apartment office until Channel 6, or 8 or 13 arrived - he told me the office was closing and threatened to call the police. Whether or not they actually fix the mold problem this time, is beyond the scope of this review - we feel failed as tenants from a customer service standpoint and would not recommend living here. The staff is friendly enough, but when it comes to fixing things right, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
