These people are not so cool. I went there on a Friday a few weeks ago and the place was closed at 4:30 even though they were supposed to be open until 5:30. I came back the next week, and I was shown an apartment by a young woman. She told me they'd be closing at 2:30 but normally they close at 5:30. Anyway, I didn't sign anything that day. The manager called me a day or two later to try to get me to come in and sign the lease. I told her that I had allergies and wanted the carpet to come up. She said that she might be able to put a thinner carpet in, but that it would cost her around $1000. She then told me to come in on Saturday and the girl in the office could show me what the new thinner carpet would look like. A few hours later, someone came in who had no problem with the carpet that was already in the apartment and they rented the place out from under me, which saved Oak Park $1000.
I showed up on Saturday and the girl in the office couldn't even remember my name, hadn't been told anything by her boss about me coming by, and she had the door locked because she was in there eating lunch by herself. She also told me that the carpet was the same in every apartment, so she didn't understand what I meant by "thinner carpet." Then she gave me the bad news about how she had leased the place to someone else the day before.
As I was leaving, I noticed dogs barking in some of the buildings. I also recalled a sign in the entryway of the apartment building (where the apartment was that I had been shown) warning residents about thieves who had been breaking into people's cars. I then thought to myself that I wouldn't have liked the place anyway. Now that I've read the other reviews on this website and know that there has previously been flooding and black mold in the vents of some of the apartments -- mold is definitely not good for an allergy sufferer -- I'm glad that I didn't sign any paperwork.
I waited a couple of weeks before posting this review, thinking that someone might call me to try to make things right with me, but nada. I'm not very impressed and I won't be renting from these people as they do not seem to be honest, hard-working, or competent.
