Resident 2008 - 2009

Please Read This Before Signing A Lease

The location of these apartments is AWFUL. While it is close to the malls and the interstate, it is also right on the railroad tracks. The trains run at all hours, including the middle of the night, so forget having your windows open while you sleep. (We also found out that you can't put a fan in front of the window when you do have it open - it "looks bad" so they write you a letter warning you not to do it again, or you will pay a fee) During both of the huge power outages in 2008 and 2009 (from Ike and from the ice storm), our end of the complex was out of electricity for 6 days each time. The complex management did NOTHING to help us and NOTHING to compensate us - we paid rent for a total of two weeks that we could not live there. While this was not the fault of Stonemill Village, they were not helpful in ANY way. We have an apartment that is still in the original condition from when the complex was built (some apartments have been remodeled), and it is very obvious. Our appliances are the oldest I've seen - we have given up on our oven because it loses so much heat (it sometimes takes a half hour to pre-heat to 400*), our dishwasher does nothing (we were finally able to have someone come look at it, and it turns out it wasn't even hooked up to a water supply, but even after "fixing" it, it still doesn't work right), so we wash all of our dishes by hand. The drawers in our kitchen are literally falling apart. The faces come off of them when we pull, they fall off of the tracks each time you shut them, and the maintenance claims they can't fix this. They said the only way to fix any of these problems was to replace everything in the kitchen - new cabinetry, new appliances. My question is, why not do that? Why not update it and make it usable (not too mention, livable). Our thermostat was never right - we would have to set it to 80* to get it to reach slightly above 70* in the winter. I requested maintenance on this also, and it took the thermostat completely shutting down to get them to come look at it (we woke one morning to a 30* apartment). There are so many more things I can list that are wrong with these apartments, but if the above isn't enough to keep you away, the rest of my complaints probably won't do much. But I STRONGLY urge you, NOT TO RENT AT STONEMILL VILLAGE. The management was a mess from day one - they would not even let us do a final walk-through before signing the lease - we couldn't enter it until we signed, so we weren't able to see all of these things wrong until after we were stuck. Please heed this advice. From the outside, the landscape makes the complex appear attractive, but once you are on the inside you will want out. Please do not make the same mistake we made - there are MUCH, MUCH better apartments for the price you will pay at these. Look behind the malls, on Breckinridge... there are plenty of other complexes in St. Matthews - Don't Settle!!!! It's NOT worth it!!!! STAY AWAY FROM STONEMILL VILLAGE!!!!!!
