Keep flagging my review, I'm going to keep rewriting it, and if you block me I'll just register under a different IP address. I have the right to freedom of speech and nothing I said has been a lie. Shows you who really has something to hide. We have lived here for seven years and are finally free this month. Tenant beware, if you moved in while it was still Equity, kiss your advance deposits goodbye. First the ----------------- --------- tried to field us by saying that no one pays last month's rent to move in. She was insistent on this and borderline rude, but this is her baseline. I escalated to the accounting department who dug up our leases that showed we paid last month's rent. MPA claims our last month's rent is gone, they don't know what happened to it, the money is missing from the ledger and don't know what to tell us even though it clearly shows on the original lease that we paid last and security in advance. Just like that, and we're expected to be okay with it. They say we're responsible for coming up with another last month's rent and that they will withhold our security deposit as last month's rent and report us to the credit bureau. They say we should have taken care of this while Equity still owned Granada and they have no access to Equity's records. We had no idea the money was missing, nor would have any reason to believe it might be until MPA took over and we signed a notice to vacate. We have never received interest on our security deposit or last month's rent. ---------, the ----------, stated expecting her to know where the money went is like going to Macy's and asking about something from Sears. She said "Would you expect them to know about Sears' information?" I told her I would if Macy's bought Sears, but she had no reply. She has been extremely condescending, rolling her eyes when I come to the office, refusing to call back, and when I met with her she told me "Do you need to put your glasses on before we start because I don't want to spend a lot of time on this." She has been extremely defensive, yelling and giving inadequate excuses about why she has no idea what happened to our money and it's not her issue because she emphasizes "THE MONEY WAS FROM SEVEN YEARS AGO, ANYTHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED SINCE THEN." As if that makes it okay, that you can't trust your money to stay safe for the duration of time you're a resident. She says MPA has nothing to do with Equity's old finances with current tenants and MPA does not have any communication with Equity or knowledge of tenant's ledgers for their security deposits/advanced rent, even though it's now MPA's money. If it's missing from the tenant's account it's too bad for the tenant. --------- also says if this was her money missing she would be understanding and accept that things happen. Corporate never returned our phone calls. I have filed a case with the attorney general and the news. The AG's office says they believe they will be able to help. We are also investigating to see if we can file a fraud charge. We are not the only ones who had this issue. The tenants upstairs hated it so much here that they terminated their lease and paid the fine to move out two years ago, and never received their security deposit back. They had the most immaculate apartment I've ever seen, not even a single spot on the rug. MPA told them too bad, they decided not to return it because they left, even though they paid the full amount to vacate early. --------- had the nerve to tell us (prior to discovering our money is missing) that MPA is very fair, it's a business and doesn't want to keep anyone's money so they are lenient with security deposits...that if the rugs are old and in need of repair they don't deduct from the security deposit for stains, etc. Riiiight. The Granada Highlands has gone downhill significantly since MPA's takeover. Unresponsive maintenance, increase in vehicle vandalism (so bad that they sent a notice to every tenant about it), decreased security, a HUGE increase in noise. At any given time people are throwing loud parties on their balconies, people are making out on the furniture in the lobby, kids are riding their bikes through the hall. There is almost always some loud construction beginning at 7:30-8 a.m., so forget sleep if you work the night shift like I do. There is constant renovation because things are done and made as cheaply as possible. Instead of taking care of important things MPA spent a crapload renovating the ground with brick...not smart when cars constantly drive over it...it's already eroding. You can also forget getting any kind of help if something goes wrong in your apartment. There's no ventilation in the bathroom so there's constant mold and the caulking wears off quickly. They fixed it once and when I called again the maintenance man said he'd put a note in the system that there's no point in removing it and recaulking because it's just going to keep coming back. The toilet leaks constantly and they've never fixed it even though several times through the past couple years the neighbors have come knocking and called maintenance also because it leaks down into their bathroom. The bathtub backs up constantly and as a result is disgustingly dirty no matter how much we bleach and scrub. Everything the tenants on here have written about the bugs is true. They look like small cockroaches and come out of the wall regardless of how much you bleach and spray. We also had black mold growing out of our air conditioner and the lease says to contact maintenance immediately if you find mold in your apartment. We ended up bleaching it because mainentance didn't respond after two phone calls. We took pictures of all this that I'll post on here when I get a chance, and I plan on contacting the Board of Health when we leave. There are numerous other issues. Nothing is ever really clean. The dishwasher takes two cycles before the dishes get clean, you can't cook because there's a ridiculous amount of smoke that comes from the oven and sets the smoke detector off every time and the self-cleaner doesn't work, and forget trying to do laundry consistently because it either eats your money (it's MacGray $3.14/load to wash and dry) or the dryer is broken and doesn't dry the clothes...feel free to call MacGray til the cows come home, it still takes a month for them to get out and repair so have fun on a multifloor goose chase for a working washer/dryer that's actually available. The amenities sound great right? Free gym, beautiful pond, intercom system, FOB that automatically unlocks the door. Not so much. The gym is full of old broken down equipment (take a tour), the pond has been closed for months, the intercom system hasn't worked since we moved to this building four years ago, and it takes about six months for them to even get your name in the directory....just to have the directory delete half the list sporadically due to a glitch in the system. If by some miracle your name/apartment stay in there, rest assured that when you press the button to let your guest in the door will not open for them. The FOBs sometimes work and sometimes don't and need to be reprogrammed often. I've given up and have been using a key for about a year. This is the least responsive, most fraudulent company I have ever encountered, and if you google MPA you will find many more similar complaints. I do NOT recommend moving in. There are only three people left on our floor who have been there since we moved in. Everyone else has gone because of the poor management and ridiculous rent increases. One poor elderly lady in a corner apartment had been there for over two decades and had to leave because she couldn't afford the rent increase when MPA took over. They tell you to expect a $30ish/month increase in the rent every year, but it's actually between $50-$60. Our rent was going up to $1210/month from $1150 for an unrenovated one bedroom apartment because of the "market value", and we have never had any trouble or complaints against us. All in all, I absolutely do not recommend this place and am looking forward to leaving. We want to leave ASAP because we fear retribution from the office such as a break-in or our cars being damaged in some way. If anything happens to our property at least there's public record here that we felt threatened. Read the other reviews on here about MPA management. The office staff are the most hostile management group I've ever come across. The reviews speak for themselves.
