Resident ā€¢ 2004

9/20/2004

My husband and I recently moved to the area from out of state, and we only had a day to find a place to live. We have a dog, so our options were limited, and we ended up choosing a two bedroom apartment in this complex. We thought, if it's this expensive, and it's in this "great", "quiet" area of Shrewsbury, how can it be bad? I wish we had been able to look a little harder, because we are totally unhappy with this complex.

I will start with the positives- our apartment has central heat and air, and washer/dryer hookups (we already had machines). It's fairly spacious, although for what you pay ($1295 for a two bedroom), you could ask for more. The neighborhood behind the complex is quiet and nice, and there's a great little coffee shop a short walk away (LaLa Java). It's also in a convenient location right off of Rte. 9, close to commuter rail and shopping.

The positives end there. Here are the drawbacks- they claim to have "renovated" the apartments recently, but they did a really cheap job of it. The appliances stink too- our dishwasher barely works and our fridge leaks. The people living here are not the classiest bunch, and worst of all, they do not know how to watch their children. I'm a big fan of kids when they're well behaved and under supervision, but this place has roving bands of kids of all ages (grade school to teenagers) loitering about at all times. They horse around in our stairwell (I've been hit by balls being thrown from the top to the bottom of the stairs), in our parking lot (which doesn't make you feel great about the security of your car), and in all the common areas, so there's no chance of enjoying these "amenities" yourself. Worst of all, when the staff or maintenance is around, they do nothing about this, even though in the "rules" it specifically says that children cannot play unsupervised in the common areas. Again, nothing against kids, but this is way out of control. There are absolutely no parents in sight in many cases! I can't wait for winter, which is sad.

I have seen police activity at the complex- like a previous reviewer, I don't know what exactly was going on, but there are some shady looking people hanging around at all hours. I definitely keep my doors locked and my windows closed (also due to the noise problems listed above).

Long story short, we will be leaving this complex as soon as our lease is up. Don't be fooled by the nice leasing office or the cute neighboorhood behind the complex- if you're a nice, professional, responsible person, you probably will not enjoy living here. It's definitely not a "luxury" apartment complex.
