Resident 2006 - 2009

6/9/2009

We've lived in Longview for about 3 years. It was a great deal when we signed the lease (just opened and had a great promotion with a couple of free months). The rooms are spacious and well planned out. The room we got was great for sharing with a roommate (which was what we had in mind). Two bedrooms, and two baths - split almost 50/50 with respect to space. There's nothing fancy about the place; it's nice a basic (in terms of aesthetic). They had great floor to ceiling windows in the suite, which really helped. It was also fantastic to have a washer and dryer within the unit (a huge luxury). The dishwasher was heavy duty and worked really well near the beginning of our stay (not so well near the end, but that's probably just age/maintenance issue). We lived on the 4th floor, so there was only one suite above ours. You can hear the bass through the ceiling if your neighbor plays some movies/games, and it does reverberate through the walls. However, most tenants are easy going and understand if you write a nice letter (We ourselves didn't know we were playing bass too loud at night. Once our neighbor notified us, we stopped immediately). There are huge dogs roaming around and some owners that don't know how to poop and scoop, but on the whole, most dog owners are responsible. We never had any problems with dog noises. The common areas were kept clean and the gym was very well equipped. There were several treadmills, ellipticals, weight machines and bikes. There's even a steam room. Sometimes the machines were down, but they were fixed pretty quickly thereafter. Our garbage chutes were kept clean and clutter free on our floor. Hallways were litter free as well. No smokers on our floor, which was a huge plus! The first floor and 3rd often reeked of smoke. Our floor smelled like gourmet cuisine every day of the night. As for maintenance issues, we've never had any so I can't comment. They come in periodically to test fire alarms, and change filters. They notify you about a week ahead of time, which is nice. They always have about two people coming in - one worker, one paperwork guy. Only complaint is that if you plan to cook a lot, figure out a way to not set off the fire alarm (theirs is incredibly sensitive!). Concierge used to be great at the beginning. The guy knew EVERYONE's name and memorized their suites and if they had a package. The BEST. The new guys are what I would have expected. They do their job and read magazines when they're not with tenants. Neighborhood leaves something to be desired. Nothing within walking distance, besides the Hannaford (good for basic groceries). There's a grave yard on one side and a hospital on the other (take from that what you will). Overall, I would highly recommend the place. We've already referred about 4 friends that have moved into longview as a result of our experience. Great, clean, basic place with apartment luxuries such as dish washer, dryer/washer combo and gym.
