Resident 1986 - 1998

When I first moved in to Canal Courts I found the complex east of Aisquith Avenue (I wouldn’t suggest going go on Holbrook St. side without a bullet proof vest) pretty nice. There were mostly working families in our court with children. Once we had been there for a few months and the summer heat came, our air conditioning unit blew out hot air. In the winter, we had to buy portable heaters because it would be freezing in the house with the heat on. We had to report it every week, which had them to eventually install a new unit, that didn’t work either. We had to have our townhouse exterminated every week, if not Mickey, Minnie and Mighty Mouse would take over. Not to mention that all but one of the lights in our court was out. Yes, a predators dream. And the rats must have parked in the parking lot because they started coming up the stairs into the court as soon as night fell. Management changed several times, the last one resulting in grounds keeping staff and most of the maintenance staff quitting. With this, the grounds were a mess and the riff raff was free to move in! We decided to move when our rent went up tremendously. Yes we were being punished for having jobs, while the section 8 tenants sold drugs in the parking lots and let their Bey Bey kids litter the courts feeding Ben and his boys. If you want to fear for your children’s safety, put your security system to good use and become the pied piper then by all means Canal Courts is the place to be. If you want security, peace of mind and a good living environment for you and your family, Don’t BOTHER look elsewhere!
