Resident 2002 - 2007

9/11/2008

I moved into Avalon in July 2002. I moved out in February 2007 after getting fed up with everything. I lived in the original complex (the gray buildings). For the most part, things were okay. Parking can be somewhat bad if you live at the bottom of the hill (spots in front fill up and you'll have to walk a bit, and visitor parking is far from the building). Noise is okay (I was on the top floor) but you can hear pretty much everything in the bathroom. (It's kinda gross, and made me a little self conscious) I moved out because I had a squirrel occupying the roof above my balcony. Maintenance placed a peanut butter trap on the balcony, but it didn't work. They never came back to check on it. Squirrel reproduced and I saw and heard them running around. Eventually they hired an exterminator to trap them. That worked okay, but at one point, they had set a trap up in the attic above my apartment. When they put the trap in, I was there, and they were very good about cleaning up the insulation that came down with the trap setter. When they came to retrieve the trap, I wasn't home, and came back to an apartment full of insulation. This was pretty much the last straw. When I was moving out, my balcony door was stuck because I hadn't gone out there in so long (because of the squirrels). Maintenance guy came and opened it, and at my request looked in the storage closet. Insulation and droppings in it. Dude said someone would be back to vacuum up. No one showed up. Went to front office and asked about it, said guys were out changing locks in the community, and they'd get to it later in the week. No one showed up before I moved, so I made sure that they didn't take any money out of my security deposit for "box removal" or other crap like that because of their bad. So, lost everything that was in my storage closet. I don't *think* there was anything of great importance in there. Oh yes. There was a big snow storm, about 2 feet of snow fell. My heat went out. Needle was below the minimum of the thermostat (either 40 or 50?) Called emergency maintenance number at around 7am. They said to turn on emergency heat. This did absolutely nothing. Which I told them. They said that someone would be by to fix it when they were done shoveling (they were shoveling when it was still snowing). I was wearing about 2-3 layers of EVERYTHING and a hat and gloves and under blankets to stay somewhat warm. Someone showed up at around 2pm to fix it. Not horrible, but not good either. There's loads more stories like that. So I would say, this place is fine, unless something goes horrible wrong, and then you're pretty much screwed unless you keep harassing them. I'm glad I'm not living here anymore.
