Resident 2013 - 2014

4/25/2014

I m an easy-going person and have a high tolerance level, but this community has certainly has pissed me off way too much. I and my wife moved here last February. Though, I did not like the look and feel of this old community in first place, my wife did. The apartment unit we reviewed with ------- (the ------ actually had a loud noise from the A.C / heater unit and the Hardwood Flooring was actually unfinished and cheap looking. She said it will be fixed in the next couple of days and we got our lease papers signed in a hurry. Once we moved in, we had to make multiple calls to maintenance to get these issues fixed. Every time the maintenance guy came, he was in a hurry to leave than actually fix the issue. The flooring was finally done in 1 & 1/2 months from moving date and the maintenance people took until July to figure out the noise issue took considering we had moved in February. And that too, it was just a temporary fix. It was embarrassing when we had guests over from London, my parents and other relatives from other parts of US for summer holidays and every time we turned the A.C, NOBODY COULD SLEEP. It was such a nightmare for which eventually I figured out a solution and it s still working fine. Other shoddy areas are the bathroom sink for which i have called multiple times and the same result. I really don't understand why the maintenance people are in such a hurry to leave without actually getting the job done!! The community believes more so in a patch work than proper finishing of the job. Utilities: Ashley apartments advertise that all utilities are inclusive but they are no good as they control everything. The A.C does not start until mid-May to June and the heater doesn't start until January. The water flow is very much controlled and you don't feel like you had a shower. BUGS: This community also has the issue of bugs in the apartment units though this was short-lived. We will have to wait and watch this summer though. Now comes the best part -- PARKING. Due to their shortcoming on the parking, Ashley apartments tows your vehicles left and right only for a nominal fee of $250. YOU MIGHT GET SOME DISCOUNT WHILE RENTING, BUT I BET YA WILL END UP LOSING MORE IF YOU HAPPEN TO STAY HERE FOR MORE THAN A YEAR DUE TO TOWING EXPENSES. Visitors have extremely limited parking and almost NONE on the weekends. I have had visitors over the weekends and they had to spend at least 30 minutes in getting a parking and some had to park at nearby TARGET store as well. One of my wife's cousins actually came in at 2 am and because he could not find any VISITOR Spots, parked in a normal parking spot only to get his vehicle towed the next morning as early as 6 am. Not only is visitor's parking a pain but parking for residents is also a major problem. Parking seems impossible at night after 8pm because there are literally no more spots open. Parking in a visitor's spot that may be open is not an option because residents will get towed for that as well. And one outrageous thing which I experienced recently is that your car will get towed even if you have the resident parking permit and you have parked at the right place, but your registration has expired. I have traveled across multiple big cities in US and have never come across such a weird policy which to me is just money making business by Ashely Apartments. It's the duty of COPS in the area to ensure this and not the leasing office. First get your act together on the parking and maintenance piece, Ashley apartments!! It is my earnest request that if you are planning on staying at this community, please think twice or thrice as it is surely comes across as a cheaper option but not worth the hassle. The leasing office people seem very friendly and they will show that they really care for you, but they actually don't which you will very well realize if you select this place for your residence. So please do your due diligence and homework and just for cheaper rent, PLEASE DO NOT PRIORITIZE THIS COMMUNITY OVER OTHERS. Look into neighboring communities near Wal-Mart which are much newer and Classy ( Camden Russett, Avalon Apartments) or some others like TALL OAKS, Horizon Square, Point at Laurel Lakes, Bowling Brook, Seasons. Etc.

You need to report any maintenance items to the manager if they are not resolved. Our policy is to remedy all maintenance where possible within 24 hours and if you continue to have issues the manager will be happy to see that everything is done to your satisfaction. When you are living in apartment communities the deadline for A/C is May 15 and Heat is October 15 so I don't know where your information is coming from. Yes there are indeed policies with regard to parking and they are reflected in the addendum signed at move in. If you do not follow those policies then your car will most likely be towed.
