Resident 2011 - 2014

6/30/2014

I lived in Falkland Chase for a several years and do not agree with many of the reviews posted. If you like to have large amounts of condensation, black mold, and a maintenance that does little to address these problems, among others, then you've come to the right place. I will say that when I put in service requests, they were typically answered within a day or so. However, the fact that several problems were repeatedly "fixed" was not a good sign. General upkeep on the grounds and common spaces is also lacking. Large amounts of broken glass near dumpsters, trees that are dead or rotting (hazardous with falling limbs), and laundry facilities that often have broken washers/dryers. Being in close proximity to the Metro and downtown is a major plus, but there is a negative side to that as well that this complex fails to address. Large amounts of people who do not live in the community wonder through at all hours of the day and night. I have witnessed non-residents enter Falkland Chase and look into cars, jiggle handles, and try opening apartment doors. I have personally talked with neighbors that have had their cars stolen from parking lots (multiple neighbors and cars). Low/no outdoor lighting in many areas, a one person security team for a large divided complex, and no barriers to outsiders - all of which work against keeping this a safe area. Additionally, the towing company associated with Falkland Chase has a horrible reputation and has repeatedly towed cars that were legally parked and belonging to residents. When I first moved to Falkland Chase I knew it was an older complex, a little on the small side, but generally was fairly priced for the area. However, a couple years ago, The JBG Companies purchases the complex and promised many changes to upkeep and renovations. Some of these promises have been kept but largely residents have been given staff issues and accounting errors instead (such as billing errors that take months to correct and a lack of record keeping). Many of the policy changes that JBG brought with them have made it harder to justify living in Falkland Chase. The parking pass system is one example. The system the management team created is impracticable. They tried to eliminate the excess parking in the area by non-residents but created a headache in the wake. The leasing office has been told this by many of those in the community but they have not made any changes to make it useful for anyone that works during the day to obtain a parking pass for family or friends. Couple this with the fear that a parking pass will be ignored by the towing company and get towed anyways, it is upsetting to say the least. The biggest draw to Falkland Chase is the community some of the neighbors have established within the complex. I have lived many places over the years but none have been so welcoming. However, it is sad to say that many of these neighbors I have come to call close-friends have or are seeking to move out of Falkland Chase because of constant problems with management and JBG. If you choose to live here, be sure to keep expectations low. There are some nice features of the area: a close downtown, access to the Metro, friendly people. But the safety issues, lack of concern from management, and inadequate investment into Falkland Chase forced me to seek residency elsewhere.
