Resident 2011 - 2013

5/9/2013

I lived here for more than a year and this place was a total nightmare. Fire alarm systems went out constantly at 2am, 3am, 4am, etc during finals week and there was no staff member on site to let any of the residents what was going on. Management is terrible, this issue kept happening for 3 months before they even resolve the problem with the malfunctioning alarms. Even still management refused to admit there was a problem with the alarms and they kept insisting the system was working perfectly despite random alarms going off in the middle of the night without any fires or smoke... The Courtyards says they provide Free high speed internet in the rental price but this is a lie. The internet is constantly going out during the day because there are too many people online. The courtyards refuses to take responsibility for this problem and redirects residents to the ISP. The ISP issued me more than 3 help tickets but never resolved the problem. Parking is a total nightmare, you can forget about having people come over because they don't have any parking spaces available for guests ever. You can hear entire phone conversations through the walls, there is absolutely no privacy while you're in the apartment. The hot water doesn't work for the showers so you have to take a cold shower every day. The office staff and management is completely incompetent, rude and unprofessional. I've reported trash being left in the hallways and piled up outside of apartments for days and the management hasn't done anything to address the issue. Overall, rental prices are inflated for the quality, service provided. You're much better off renting from 411 or landmark down on central campus. Save yourself the trouble of living here!

As the community manager, I would like the opportunity to address your concern. I do apologize you feel as though we have failed in the quality of service to you or other residents. Our community does strive for exceptional customer service and a high quality of living. During the early hours of January 22, 2013 we did experience a malfunction in the fire alarm systems. It did end up going off 3 times during the night and the fire department responded to each call. During this incident the on-call community assistant (who also lives in the building), responded immediately and was walking around the building to ensure all the residents were safe and there was not a fire. One of the three false alarms was a result of someone actually pulling one of the stations for a "prank". Again, causing headache to our residents. Our on-call CA and Maintenance Manager were both on site during this entire ordeal. In addition, the monitoring company was also called out in the middle of the night to repair the system. At that point, we all were under the impression the system was in full working order. Unfortunately, the next evening the alarm did sound again and the monitoring company came back to the site and repaired the issue immediately. Management had postings on Facebook the same day the alarm went off, alerting people of the situation. A letter was also delivered to each apartment in the building, apologizing for the inconvenience and addressing what happened. This letter was delivered on January 25th. To your other concerns, our internet management company is Elauwit Networks. They are here to assist our residents with internet and television issues. Our internet services are consistently being monitored to ensure we have adequate bandwidth, speed for uploading and downloading, outages, etc. Over the last year, we have increased bandwidth and have added additional wireless access points. All of this is done to provide the best service possible. During peak internet usage hours, a resident will see lower speeds due to the number of people of using the system. However, you should not experience outages. If this is going on, there are support services provided by Elauwit in order to resolve your technical issues. They are also available to you 24/7. At our community, we have extremely limited parking. The Courtyards and the City of Ann Arbor encourage the use of public transportation. We do offer visitor parking for those who have a visitor with a vehicle, however these passes are available on a first come, first serve basis. While living at our community, should a resident experience a maintenance issue within their apartment, like no hot water, this needs to be reported to an office staff member or the resident can go online to our website, for a service request ticket to be generated. Our maintenance team will respond to and resolve most issues within a 24 hour timeframe. They are also available after-hours in cases of a maintenance emergency. In conclusion, it is not the intention for our residents to be inconvenienced or to not have an enjoyable living experience at our community. As the Community Manager, I strive to have a clean community, professional staff, and superior customer service. I am unfortunately not able to please everyone, but I also want to ensure my staff is doing everything possible for you. If at any time, a resident has an issue and they feel as though it is not getting resolved, please let me know and we can work together to resolve the problem. I welcome you to visit me at the office at any time to address your concerns.
