Disclaimer: I'm picky and have high expectations. I pay more for quality.

Honestly, I wanted to love this place. It s hard to botch something w/ as much potential as the Kales, but consider it done - and I have one of the nicest apartments with one of the best views in the building.

Pros: The views!, real hardwood parquet flooring, real white subway tile in bathrooms, dishwashers, trash shutes on every floor, location, location, location, the tunnel to the garage, simple workout room, free tanning, key fob entry, quiet between apartments (loud noise fr street due to windows) business center w/ free printing (if they remember to change the toner), built-in Microwave, overall friendly neighbors, they winterized my windows (albeit it poorly)

Cons: old windows with BIG drafts, constant maintenance & security issues, the in-unit washers & dryers are useless and they only have 2 (coin op) washers & dryers for public use. Management * Maintenance is HORRIBLE defensive, lazy and incompetent. The one woman on staff is the saving grace of the place in terms of professionalism.

Since I ve lived there (10 months): dozens of car break-ins in the garage (inc.l around 10 in one week recently), a drunk driver totaled a handful of cars in the garage, the elevators routinely go out we ve been down to one elevator for going on 3 WEEKS now, false fire alarms, I ve gone over 5 full days (this winter) without heat, I ve had the maintenance guy let himself into my apartment on a handful of occasions (he once rearranged and left my furniture that way, without leaving a note that he was there), I had a window washer scare the S*&T out of me while I was in my underwear b/c management forgot to post the dates, we ve had homeless people sleeping in the stairways, the list goes on ..This is in no way luxury living in Detroit . It s decent and average. It could be great with a little effort. Hold on to your money and sit tight until the David Broderick and David Whitney are rehabbed.

In their defense: To compensate for my concerns, they knocked $100 off my rent once and have offered to meet to discuss these issues. I didn t take them up on the meeting because they re defensive on the phone they know the issues; they just need to fix them. They ve since added security measures to the garage, but I don t have too much faith in the patrol people I ve met.
