Resident 2011 - 2013

10/21/2013

I have mostly enjoyed living at Flo-Mar for 2 years (2011-2013). For the location, price and management, I do recommend it. As it goes anywhere, the management can vary depending on who the person is and how competent they are, and I have seen 3 different managers during my time there. I initially was happy to move in because I had heard great things about Stacey and she was great to deal with. But she left soon after we moved in. Most complaints I have had about Flo-Mar would be faulted to April, who used to manage the property for the majority of 2012 and into 2013 and seemed to sometimes lack common sense and professionalism. Renee, who has since taken over, has been extremely helpful and I can tell that she cares about her job and the residents. She has always been on the same page with me regarding good communication, and even with any slight issues I've had, she's been able to deal with them professionally, efficiently and courteously. She goes above and beyond and I have appreciated that very much. I believe she has brought back the quality and service of what Flo-Mar was known for previous to April. The apartments are in good shape, the unit I lived in had newer wood floors and we didn't have any issues with the infrastructure. Noise level from other units is minimal. Trying to get a work order processed used to be an extreme pain in the butt while April was there. I have suggested to her several times that they do a better job of keeping maintenance appointments within a reasonable window from submission (entering two to three weeks later with no warning is unreasonable in my opinion), and at least leaving a memo or sending a note that they have entered the unit and detail what they have done. April verbally complied several times but always failed to follow through, so I avoided minimal work orders since Renee had been hired. But I would assume the process has very much improved with the better manager, Renee was very understanding about this situation. Parking used to be a huge issue of mine (the shape the lot was in, not enough spaces for the number of permits, very faded to no parking lines, which caused people to park ridiculously and too close to each other, etc. My car has taken a bit of external damage/wear on the doors from the amount of door dings accrued in 2 years. I also suggested improving this constantly to April, but a change never happened until Renee took over.) but right as we were moving out, they repaved and relined the parking lot completely and the parking situation seems to have improved very much. I have had homeless or seemingly homeless visitors by my building and front door soliciting help more than once in two years. Not often, but a few times. I was well aware of my surroundings and area, so I wouldn't blame the apartments as this is part of the risk of living in some areas. I have also had my car slightly vandalized once while parked within the parking lot. Again, I don't think the apartments are fully responsible for either of these types of incidents but I believe it's good to be aware of the possibilities. Everybody has different priorities, but for a professional graduate student couple with a short term living situation, it was overall a very good option. And especially since Renee is there to help, I'd highly recommend leasing from Flo-Mar. She helped make the move-out process easy and uncomplicated, and has even been helpful with other miscellaneous things months after move-out. Give them a try if you're looking for a place in Ypsi.
