Resident ā€¢ 2005

I moved into a three-bedroom apartment a few weeks ago and I have to say, so far this place is great. I always take apartment ratings with a grain of salt because you usually get two extremes: 1) People that work for the apartment giving a great review, and 2) People who have had some sort of scuffle with the owners/staff and want to get back at them by writing a terrible review. Hopefully this will be a middle of the road review. Ive only been in the apartment for a month so Ill admit I havent had a chance to see how bad or good it can be yet. Here are my pros and cons so far:

PROS:

Our apartment got new carpet just before we moved in and a new stove installed just after we moved in. All the kitchen appliances seem pretty new.

There is more than enough parking in the lot and a heated garage (1 stall per apartment)

Private entrance from the front and from the garage and split level makes it feel more like a town home.

The grounds are nicely landscaped.

W/D in unit actually its in the kitchen, which is weird, but luckily its not too noisy

Location: 1 miles from downtown Burnsville, near the freeway (1/4 mi. from southbound I-35, 1 mile from northbound 35E and 35W)

So far everything weve asked to be fixed has been fixed few days after we requested it.

The bedrooms are pretty big and have large closets.

Pretty cheep - $333/person not including water/electric/gas is a good deal for a 1,325 SqFt in the suburbs

CONS:

Bass travels through the walls very well. We never hear vacuums or conversations, but we hear the bass every time our neighbors watch a movie or listen to music.

The living room only has one heat vent for a large room with a huge window and leaky front door. The bedrooms were all warm but the living room was about 10 degrees cooler. We bought some weather stripping for the door and plastic insulation for the window and now its normal.

The walls, baseboards, and linoleum floors are worn out. The walls look like theyve had about 10 coats of paint; the rubber baseboards are all cracked, peeling, or missing; and the kitchen and bathroom floors all have knicks, scratches, and gouges.

Bedrooms dont have overhead lights but do have light switches that are connected to outlets get ready to buy some lamps.

No fitness center. We were told that instead of a fitness center we would get a discount at the health club thats a 1/2 mile down the road. We thought that was a good deal until we called the health club and found out they just offer $9 off a $120/mo couples pass.

CONCLUSION

I think the pros outweigh the cons. If none of these cons existed Southwind would be a luxury apartment and cost twice as much. You cant have your cake and eat it too; if you want luxury youll pay for it, if you want a decent place to live at a good price check out Southwind.
