Resident 2011 - 2012

1/23/2014

Been awhile since I lived there but since I'm moving across the country and looking for apartments myself I figured I should write some reviews from my past rentals. I enjoyed my year at Timberland Heights and overall the pros weighed out the cons for me. Please take into account that I was a college student at the time, and this place was great for my and my roommates' budgets. Pros: Nice pool, kept clean as far as I could tell. Laundry on site, granted you do share it with your building so sometimes it wasn't available when I wanted but I just waited an hour or so and then they were open. Spacious units, held all of our stuff nicely. But laundry was also under the con list, see below. Management (especially Kim, wish I remembered your last name) worked very well with us as far as helping with various issues and didn't even charge us for damages we left in the unit (I broke a blind and left some significant holes in the walls from wall hangings). The best thing I can recommend is to be open and honest with them if you are having any issues with roommates, finances, etc. They were always friendly and had time for a conversation! Pests were not at all an issue for us. I read a past review about roaches being a huge problem. I didn't know we had those in MN, but it's never been a problem for me anywhere. Granted we left our deck door open so the cat could go in and out (given the weather of course), which brought in flies and an occasional spider. If pests are a concern I would suggest not living on the first floor. Maintainence gave ample warning before repaving the parking lot, and asked that we parked in the church parking lot next door. Obviously could've caused inconveniences but I'm glad they take the time to do these things! They took down the tennis court that was unusable and an eyesore and put down more grass, which is great for dog owners and parents. Rarely heard my neighbors, but we did have a top/corner unit. Parking was not usually an issue, unless I got home late at night (after 11), I would sometimes not be able to find a spot. They do not require permits in your vehicle so guests can park in tenant spots. Guest parking is available but inconvenient depending on your building. Maintainence kept the facilities looking nice and responded quickly, problems were always fixed the first time. Timberland Heights is much safer than either Essex Place/Park or Gates of Rochester (please for the love do not rent at the Gates, much higher chance of criminal activity). I never felt unsafe or saw any unrulies roaming about. Cons: The pool was overwhelmed by children during the after school/daycare hours, but that is to be expected. All utilities are required to be paid, which was a first for me as I was used to only paying for electric. But after apartment searching in Rochester I realized that was common (not all places will require that if you do your searching). But it didn't break the bank, especially with 2 other roommates. For laundry, cards were required and had to be preloaded with cash. I didn't particularily like this system, but I suppose it's equally as useful and inconvenient as using quarters. The fitness center was the size of a large office and only had a few machines and weights. But that was enough for me, I'm a simple soul. Not likely good enough for any body builders or workout junkies I would assume... Neutral: The layout and overall appearance is nice but not remarkable, so if you're looking for a "luxury" apartment, I wouldn't consider Timberland Heights to fall under that category. But for me, it was by far the nicest apartment I lived in thus far in my life. So why did I leave? My roommate was a crazy ditch (thanks autocorrect) and the other one moved in with her boyfriend, leaving me to live in the absolute worst house ever the following year. Wish I could've been able to afford a 1bdrm at Timberland!
