Resident 2008 - 2010

4/4/2010

I've lived in Chateau for 2 years while I obtained my graduate degree from UNC. I'm originally from NJ and consider myself somewhat high maintenance. When moving down to NC, I used these reviews to guide my apartment search, so hopefully this can be helpful to someone else. Overall, I was incredibly satisfied with my 2nd floor apartment at Chateau. If I moved back to the Triangle area, I would not hesitate to return here. * Really spacious apartment. For one person, I had more than enough room. The bedroom was larger than many other apartments around. I loved having two very large closets in the bedroom. The kitchen, as some reviewers said, is somewhat small, but seemed pretty typical in size for an apartment. Its enclosed so it gets pretty warm in it and the counter space is somewhat limited. I was lucky enough to have an apartment with new, upgraded appliances. Most apartments, however, have older appliances. I liked having three ceiling fans in the apartment (bedroom, dining room, and kitchen) and this helped with air flow since only the bedroom windows open. * Heating and A/C. I agree with the reviewers that mention the loudness of the system. The system does what it needs to do, though and I never had any trouble with it. I was able to sleep through it but I did have to always adjust the TV volume to account for the additional noise. I was in several other apartment complexes in the area, though, with similar heating/cooling units that make the same noise. * Friendly neighbors. The people living around were, for the most part, really great. They were helpful (when I knocked out the pilot on my stove) and friendly, but never to the point of invasive or nosy. * Felt safe. This was really important to me and I never had any issues with safety. Granted, I practiced common sense precautions: locking my door and windows, etc. The parking lots and breezeways are really well lit at all times (more so than Carrboro in general!). * Great staff. I really liked Dan, the owner and manager. You can tell he cares about the complex and wants to make sure his tenants take care of it, too. Billy, the maintenance guy, is helpful, resourceful, and quick. I had a few small maintenance issues here and there and all were resolved within one or two business days. For AC or heating issues, it was usually same day service. * Ample parking. * Pool is well taken care of and a great addition. * Two laundry facilities on the property. Although I would have preferred having laundry in my apartment, the facilities are well maintained and I never had to wait to do laundry. I usually could do 3 or 4 loads at once and finish everything in under two hours. * Easy access to UNC, Carrboro, grocery shopping, etc. I usually biked to UNC and it only took about 10-15 minutes. There is easy access to 3 bus lines and the CPX was the quickest route for me. Downtown Carrboro is about a 20 minute walk and 2 grocery stores are are within a 5 minute drive. * Older apartment complex. From what I remember, the apartments were built in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Despite this, they are really well maintained, including the grounds.
