Resident 2012

3/21/2012

I've lived here for a few years and believe I can give a well rounded and fair assessment of The Point Apartments. When I first moved in, I was constantly having problems with my heating and air. It was hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Maintenance did not seem to know how to fix it. When it was time for my second lease to be signed, I brought these issues up to management to see if I could get my rent lowered as sort of a reparation for the problems. They not only refused to lower my rent but the lady I talked to in the main office was condescending. Since then, the apartment has been purchased by a new management company. The office and maintenance staff seem to be rotated on an annual basis. Office staff tend to be either very polite and knowledgeable or rude and inept. Word of advice: keep track of your monthly renters bills that are mailed each month. I have been informed a couple of times that I owed more than I really did. I got out of it because I keep accurate records of what I actually owe. Since the apartment was purchased by a new management company, the new maintenance staff seems to have gotten better. The apartments do seem to have a bug problem. I consider myself a clean person and have seen roaches and "water bugs" from time to time. When I brought this to the office staff's attention, they seemed matter of fact about it but did send someone over to spray or fumigate. On a final note, I ended up waiting to the last minute for somewhere else to live last year. So I had to sign up here for another year. The rent was jacked up $84 over last year. Included in that $84 is a monthly $20 fee for trash. Apparently The Pointe hired a company that comes by and picks up your trash each night. Sounds great right? Except when you do the math and find that if you dump a bag of trash in the dumpster once a week, that costs between $4-$5 a week. A real rip off when you consider that just having someone pick up your trash and carry it a few feet to the dumpster will cost $240 a year. When I brought this up to a staff member they suggested to "make more bags of trash" in order to get my money's worth. Bottom Line: Look somewhere else to rent. There is better value somewhere else in the Charlotte area.
