I have nothing but GREAT words to say about Retreat at McAlpine. We are not locals of North Carolina. After moving exhaustively from Dallas Texas we needed to find our new home and move in quickly. After an extensive search and analyzing tons of reviews we chose The Retreat to call home. From the day we moved in on short notice due to the fast turn around from Management Staff Deb and Hannah getting us approved and them going above and beyond to help us sort out an issue with the local energy company who cut off our power the following day when it was freezing cold, we have a welcoming experience of being treated like real people with real lives to be cared about. Sure there were reviews that spoke negatively, but we have learned the hard way that you cannot believe everything you read AND people who are horridly negative about a place while repressing their name are more than likely hiding their identity for a reason. Have you noticed that people often fail to write positive reviews but never hesitate to write one when they are ticked-off about something? Most of the time we have found that the worst reviews about somewhere were the competition. Anyway, that is our experience having moved with work transfers several times in 4 yrs. That being said, though this establishment is older, it is not too old, and it is SO well maintained. It is pretty to drive through, with big trees and gardens everywhere. In spring it will be in bloom and that will be gorgeous. The homes are tidy, many of which are renovated fully or in process of such. We opted for a townhome that was not fully renovated but had had a mini overhaul. It is big, warm and clean. We were so happy to learn the walls were insulated too, which has helped keep us warmer without needing to use too much power. The school is across the road and the amenities here great for our family needs. The children love the playground and come summer we have a choice of 2 large pools. It is also very, very quiet here. You can listen to the frogs and crickets chirping from the woodlands beside us. Oh, and another thing I just love... one of the rooms is my office and it overlooks the woodlands. Every day the Deer come and feed on the grass right out front of my window. I just love this... such serenity here.
