I've lived here for just over 2 years. The management company changed from Gables to Greystar. One of the best things I can say about that is: at least the place isn't falling down now. The wood repairs have been finished, the buildings have been repainted, the parking lots have been re-sealed (though they told residents it was going to be resurfaced, some new landscaping and lighting has been started but that's stalled. Supposedly the fitness center has been redone, but I haven't checked it out lately.

Some of the trashy/troublesome people other reveiwers had noted have moved out, and I've noticed a lot fewer car alarms activated. However, it doesn't seem this company is really that much better at screening applicants. The guys next door to me look to be 16 and have a herd of other young people in at all hours. Not that I'm some crotchety old person, but I like to sleep at night rather than listen to a jam session. The unit above theirs must have 8 people in it...and that's a 2 bedroom unit.

The office staff is rude. No other way to put it, short of hateful. Everything is an imposition to them. Since they've taken over rates have soared, and service has either been steady or cut back a bit. I haven't had to make a maintenance request in a while, but previously that was quite an ordeal.

The unit itself is nice, and generally quiet. It's close to my job, plenty of shopping/dining nearby. If you're considering The Retreat at McAlpine, just don't take things at face value.
